This was very simple to put together, but the instructions called for padding, which was not included. One of the J bars, as well as two of the ratchets, were broken, as you can see. My roof rack bar has been scratched to hell by the broken bar, and I can't get it unscrewed, so I'll have to cut it off. When I informed the company about the broken bar, they sent me only half of a J bar. I am extremely dissatisfied with this product and the company's response.
BUYING IS A MISTAKE. The rack was flimsy and unsupportive. While driving on the freeway, I was not even exceeding the posted speed limit. My kayak was thrown off because it snapped. Not in the least bit sturdy. Don't throw your money away. Without the kayak roof rack, I could have strapped both kayaks together and felt much safer.
The "heavy duty" version of these rack mounts was supposed to be this product. They are the lightweight version, as you can see in the photo. The knobs on the bottom are a dead giveaway. There should be four, but only two are present. They don't fit well, and the assembly is hampered by incorrect parts, misaligned holes, and other issues; however, I had no choice because I needed to use them for a kayak trip that couldn't wait. This product has dissatisfied me greatly, and I would advise anyone to avoid doing business with this seller.
I installed these and tightened them as much as I could, but the kayaks continue to wiggle and bounce around. Every time I use the rack, the bolts must be tightened.
There were no instructions included! It was extremely difficult to put together without instructions.
amazing! If you're going on a long trip and intend to travel at 80 mph, stay away from the backs of tractor trailer trucks as well! ) add an extra strap where you see fit lolbr>Aside from that, it's perfect for kayaks!.
There are some extra pieces that aren't mentioned in the very basic instructions. We completed two of the four before realizing that we needed to disassemble and reassemble them. br>The rubber securing the racks to the roof rack was torn after only ONE use. br>Returned to the store and purchased the most highly recommended (but much more expensive) set.
I was very pleased with this product because the instructions were very clear and there were good pictures to go along with them. The brackets came in two sets for me. My only gripe is that the sponge gasket I received did not match the one specified in the instructions; it was the incorrect one.
