Questions & Answers

In what capacity does it serve?

The item is designed for people who bucket wash their cars. It is important to use a bucket filled with clean water and a bucket filled with soapy water when bucket washing a car. If you want to bucket wash your car, wet your wash mitt then dunk it in your soap bucket after washing your car in clean water. After you have washed a section of your car with your wash mitt, you take it and put it in the bucket of clean water. As you do this, dirt particles will fall into the Using the grit guard will ensure that the dirt stays in the bucket and that when the clean water continuously runs through the bucket, the dirt particles will not rise to the surface and be lodged in your wash mitt, preventing scratches on your car. The grit guard will keep dirt from adhering to your wash mitt if you accidentally drop it into the bucket of clean water. You might even consider purchasing two of these and placing one in each bucket so that you never have any dirt on your wash mitt when hand washing your car.

In this case, I should use the "two-way" In this video, I am shown how to wash a bucket, but it is unclear why I need it. In the end, doesn't the TBWM accomplish the same goal?

It is still a good idea to buy two, one for each bucket you have. allows dirt to settle to the bottom so that you don't pick it up on your wash mitt when you soap up and rinse. In the end, how picky you are about your finish determines how much work is required. You can keep everything looking good with this cheap and simple solution!

I don't have any buckets in which the unit goes all the way down. If it were raised about 1 inch or so, would it work?

My Home Depot (at least where I am) seems to have changed their buckets. In the True Value, Home Depot, or Walmart bucket (if there was no logo), the grit guard didn't reach the bottom. The bucket from Lowe's was large enough to hold it.

Is it suitable for 5 gallon buckets of paint?

You can put it in a bucket of 5 gallons

I could not find it at Home Depot, Lowe's, Sears, or Walmart
3/5

I am unsure of how some people who just recently reviewed it referred to it as fitting 5 gallon buckets at Home Depot and Lowe's. In both places, I brought a guard and could not have been As you can see in the attached images, none of them fit. Approximately 3/4 inch from the bottom, the guard can be set almost to the There was a possibility that there was a price drop on the Lowe's blue bucket around 2 in the afternoon There is an inch between the bottom and the top edge. Despite this, none of the guards were able to touch the bottom. Maybe HD and Lowe's had different buckets for people who reviewed this a few years ago? My results were the same with Sear Craftman and Walmart buckets as well. A second problem is the small size of the holes in the middle. Considering I am an average-sized person, I could not fit my fingers in those two holes, but it is not a major issue. In order to fit most of the 5 gallon buckets, the guard should be a little smaller (a little bit smaller than the diameter is). It may lose a little bit in the bigger bucket bottoms though. As with the last review, this one is based on testing it with buckets from Home Depot, Lowes, Sears and Walmart. The bucket may be able to be used with buckets from other places, so I gave it 2 stars. If I had to find the 5 gallon buckets this guard fits in anywhere else, I wouldn't know where. It would be nice if people who reviewed this were more careful so people like me won't have to go through all this trouble.

Great dimensions and a good bucket buying guide, oh yeah, and I like the Grit Guard as well
5/5

I often dread seeing reviews that state "I haven't used it yet," but that is what I am doing at the moment. As far as I am concerned, it will not remove grit, grime, or any other contaminants from my wash mitt and keep them from contact with the finish on my car. Consequently, what I will tell you is about dimensions because that is what many questions I read are about, and it is what I myself had to deal with. The Grit Guard measures 10 3/8" on the outside and 10 3/8" on the inside, as you can see from my photos and the dimensions in the description. Besides this, the statement is made that it will easily fit into any to Lowes and picked up a blue bucket from their standard 5 gallon selection. It was very easy to measure the inner diameter of the bucket since I took it to the tool section. Buckets in this category usually have a top circumference of less than 12 inches and a bottom circumference of at least 10 inches. With those measurements I knew I wouldn't be able to get the bucket in the size I needed but I bought it anyway in case I had Well, it turned out to be the perfect fit. In the bottom bracket, the lower standoffs are slightly tapered down to about 10", which allows the Grit Guard to have a flush fit against the bucket bottom The outcome of the project has been very positive for me. Hence, if you are planning on buying this to help with your car washing work, then I would suggest you do so. The bucket that you want to put it in can be found along the tool aisle or you can bring your own tape measure and measure it, and if the bottom of the bucket is 10 inches in diameter, it will work. A 5 gallon bucket that I purchased two years ago came from Lowes. Hope this serves you well. Good luck to everyone.

It fits the bucket sold at the home depot
5/5

I took a picture of this grit guard so you can see it fits the 5 gallon home depot all purpose bucket perfectly with the sealed lid as shown. Dirt and debris from the car end up at the bottom of the bucket, so it does its job. Junkman says that Grit Guard provides guards to other companies such as Chemical Guys, so this is the best company to use. While their bucket system is a bit pricey, the Homer bucket is a much better option for the price, and with rinseless wash solution detailing it works just fine.
Since my rinse bucket may not hold enough water if I do the 2 bucket wash later, I may have to buy another.

That works well for me
5/5

A couple of these Grit Guards came from Amazon, and another was purchased from a local auto part store that was similar, but not identical. Although I have no way of knowing for sure that they help, I've seen multiple online detailers recommend using them, and they seem like a good way to reduce unnecessary damage to your car's paint. Those Grit Guard buckets are my favorite for the most part since they easily fit into the bottom of 5 gallon buckets, at least those I have purchased from some big-name retailer. There is a box chain where orange is their favorite color. My bucket and Grit Guard do not fly out every time as they always do on the one locally, so I can hose it out and dump it.

Using this product works well! The product does exactly what it says on the box
5/5

If you put the sponge in the bottom of a 5 gallon bucket, dirt from your car wash sponge or brush will pass through it and end up in the bottom of the bucket so you won't have to continually dip it The method also works for degreasing parts in a bucket of water In the process of spraying the parts, any excess "gunk" sinks to the bottom. If needed, you can stack them to get more height. If the brass cartridge case is not very large, it does not work for washing dirty brass cartridge cases. There are many popular movies - In the event of the containers falling through the openings, they would end up in the It didn't work. I thought I could use a garden hose to clean the stainless steel pins out of my brass. Despite all the changes in the industry, this product continues to function very well and does exactly what it was designed to do. This will be a hit with you, so order a few! This is OhioMo123.

It would be a good addition to any vehicle detailing kit
4/5

In watching tons of detailing videos on YouTube, and learning how to wash my vehicle with the two bucket method, I purchased two of these to use for my rinse and wash Grit guards work on the principle that dirt will settle below the guard so scratches are avoided by rubbing the dirt into the paint. Generally they seem to be doing what they are supposed to do. I use these towels quite often because they are well made.

The reason that they did not get five stars is two minor issues. One, they are about 8. 5 inches wide and about half an inch high. Each cost 9 bucks, and since they are nothing but plastic mold, it may be better to charge 5 bucks for both, or to separate them and charge each for 12 bucks. The buckets at Home Depot are only 5 bucks, but there is more plastic in them. The second problem is that I bought two red Pep Boys buckets to match the red grit guard in the bathroom, which are both the five gallon kind, but the guard does not extend completely. Therefore, I am about to find out that 5 gallon buckets are not universal size and I am quite certain they would fit a Home Depot bucket.
