In my opinion, it is an unusual wire. It feels like a 26 or 28 gauge wire wrapped in gold threads. I'm surprised at how strong it is and how well it does the job. I haven't had any problems with it breaking and it is easy to work with. Too much force will cause it to break.

When I was a child I made my own bows using wired ribbon and curling ribbon to finish them I was given a bowdabra by my mom for my birthday (which she has been using for years) and I will never go back to any other tool. Wire in this size is amazing for the bowdabra. I couldn't get enough at the time I needed it. My wrapping session was about to begin, so I ran to the local craft store, but sadly they did not have these. The embroidery thread I bought fell apart when I tried to wrap the ribbon around it and was unable to do so. may ask my husband, but when I opened this package I screamed for joy.
