My experience with foil engraving for a couple of years now has resulted in a 50/50 chance of getting a good quality product

There were a lot of crappy surfaces on this kit. Despite all your efforts, the black couldn't be scratched off. Eventually, you damaged the foil so badly when you pushed harder you could no longer use the picture. I have worked with other Royal Brush foil engraving kits and have had a few that made the black on the surface a pleasant medium to work with, and also had others that did not. Examples of the former are "The Simian" and "The New St. Cloud". Who gets which one depends on the luck of the draw, I guess. It is imperative that quality control be improved.

However, I have not started the project yet, but my new favorite thing is the dragon. In the regal Brush Pegasus in silver, and the regal Brush Unicorn, both in silver, I observed lights reflecting in a rainbow of colors, and I expect the Whenever I'm working on a Royal Brush kit, I can always count on terrific pieces to work with.
