To me, flipping it around makes it much easier to make 3 inch squares when turning 2 1/2 inch strips.

There are several types of quilting rulers you can use

To use this ruler, you need to make half square triangles or do the strip tube technique. When I was cutting and holding the ruler, one of the corners snapped off as the ruler was being used. The left side of the piece is still usable, I just have to be careful when cutting it.

Currently, I am using this ruler as part of an online quilting class I am taking. Our goal was to use this ruler to make "flying geese," that stretched over a tube of fabric we made. In order to make the blocks without cutting off their points, we used this method.
