It all depends on your definition of "adult size" as well as the stitch pattern you want to use. The majority of the adult blankets I make are lap size (also known as "lapghans"). In that case, 1 or 2 skeins (for a less dense stitch, such as a pineapple shape or some simple fans and arches) or 4 skeins (for a dense stitch, such as the waffle or basket weave stitch) may be sufficient. I've never made a blanket that large, like a Queen-sized blanket, so I can't say for sure. My guess is that it will be twice as much as I use for a lapghan or twin sized quilt. So 4 for a lacey, loose stitch (with a larger hook than usual, like a K size, to add that loose drape effect) or 8, possibly 10(? I usually use an I or possibly a J size hook for a dense stitch.
It's lighter in weight and extremely soft (though I must admit that the softness is sometimes influenced by the color of the yarn). The weight of this yarn is labeled as a 4, but it's more like a 3 Sport or a Baby yarn. br>br>I'm not unhappy because I like working with smaller yarns. Thankfully, a new skein of yarn is scheduled to arrive on Thursday, but I'm still irritated. I PURCHASED THIS YARN IN ORDER TO MAKE PRAYER SHAWLS. THIS IS THE RIGHT ONE, AS GREEN IS THE COLOR OF HEALING. A SINGLE SKEIN OF THIS YARN IS ENOUGH TO MAKE AN ENTIRE GARMENT. IT IS WASHABLE AND LASTS FOR YEARS. THE SIZE OF THE YARN IS CONSISTENT. THE ONLY CONCERN IS A SMALL AMOUNT OF PILLING AFTER HEAVY USE. I CROCHET OR USE MY KNITTING LOOM TO MAKE A GOOD SHAWL TO BLESS SOMEONE WHO IS SICK.
I crochet and donate everything to preemie NICUs, so a soft yarn is essential. Pound of Love is my favorite brand of yarn. Because shopping is difficult for me because I am disabled, I rely heavily on Amazon. This yarn costs less than what I'd pay at craft stores with 40% off coupons. You can't go wrong with this yarn purchase! Over time, I've purchased it in a variety of colors.
This yarn has a very cheap appearance and feel to it. I've tried a variety of stitches, but none of them look particularly good because the yarn just looks cheap when it's worked up. I'm going to go with the mini bean stitch because it appears to be the least "cheap. " " This yarn is not soft, but it is scratchy. It's also quite small. It does not necessitate the use of a 6mm hook (as suggested). A four is what I'm using. 5mm hook. This is the last yarn I will ever buy. So, even though you get a lot for the money, it's still not a good buy because it'll most likely end up in your yarn stash for the rest of your life until you decide to donate it to your local thrift store. UPDATE: So I started working with this horrible yarn just to put it to the test, with the intention of washing it to see if I could soften it. The yarn suddenly changes to the point of fingering weight yarn not long after it is wound into the skein. And before it returns to its normal thickness, there's a LOT of this fingering weight section. It's clear that this is completely useless. I'm returning it today with the reason being that it's defective.
The inner yarn is full of knots, and the yarn has thicker areas, similar to fur balls. With one skein, I had to cut the yarn four times, losing about 1/4 of the skein each time. The second time was the worst because I was so frustrated that I refused to go through the time-consuming process of attempting to salvage the skein and threw it away! This yarn is not something I would recommend. I've had good luck with other Lion yarns, but this one isn't up to par!.
At this price point, the yarn is much softer than most acrylics. However, this is a thinner yarn, not what I consider to be true worsted weight. But it's a joy to work with, and I've never had a problem with tangles. This shade of grey is fantastic: It's gender-neutral enough to appeal to both males and females. br>br>I donate a lot of knitting to charity, and this is one of my favorites (along with Caron One Pound). br>br>It irritates me that different colors have different prices, so keep that in mind.
