However, this is an older model. It works. but I am kind of disappointed because I received the older larger Xbox Wireless Adapter for Windows, even though the 33% smaller one is shown in the pictures and description shows/states I believe the controller is also an older model, though it's difficult to tell if it's a refurb.
It was a rather bizarre experience. This is the only non-fiction book that I've read so far. I've never seen a plug-and-play game controller before. 1) open wireless adapter, plug it in 2) whoops driver errors, take it out, uninstall, reinstall 3) hmm that's strange, guess I'll restart the computer 5) ok, still getting the error It's time to look up something on Google. Strangely, many Windows 7 users are experiencing problems. 6) *reading online* what does this inst windows 7 compatible mean? 7) Double-check the Amazon listing; "windows 7" is listed under the product description. Whew, if Microsoft hadn't supported their own $50 controller, that would have been insane. 8) *after about 4 hours of googling, installing, reinstalling, restarting, and combing various blog forums: ok, I guess Microsoft is discontinuing Windows 7, which is really annoying because the description is incorrect and they're forcing this update 9) Install Windows 10 10) Ok, follow the directions. The quickest way to get it working wirelessly is to use this method. It wasn't as simple as plugging it in and turning it on. Going to the controller in Device Manager and selecting the option to search and update driver from the internet is a quick way to get it running wirelessly. The controller is fantastic apart from that. It's perfect for gaming on Windows. Because I do not own an Xbox, I am unable to provide a review.
This controller is just another example of Microsoft's desperate attempt to force its intrusive security nightmare of an operating system onto the general public. This controller does not work with older versions of Windows because there are no drivers for it. It doesn't take a lot of imagination to figure out that this is a bold and deliberate move on Microsoft's part. br>There's also the fact that you'll have to get firmware updates from an actual Xbox One console if you want them. br>At this point, I'm sick of Microsoft's constant nagging that I should abandon Windows 7. So much so that, had I not discovered this product, I might have considered doing so; however, they can now forget it. When Windows 7 stops working, I'm switching to Linux permanently.
Win7 64bit is the operating system I'm using. Although the states are comparable, Windows is unable to locate drivers. I discovered a link to "Microsoft_XboxOne_Wireless_Driver_Win7_Win8" drivers. 1_AMD64", but that also didn't work. Because AMD is in the name, and my computer is an Intel, is this possible? If I can get it to work, I'll edit it, otherwise I'll give up and return it for a full refund.

This, in my opinion, is a significant advantage over Playstation controllers. br>br>Contrary to popular belief, there are a number of disadvantages to using this product.
