Questions & Answers

How big should the rocket motor be?

Let's get this party started, man. Google is your best friend! The Estes website is your best friend, and I'm awesome because D and E motors are my specialty.

Is the three-fin rocket design supported by this? Is it just for four fins, or is it for more?

Due to the plastic molding, this is a four-fin design that is difficult to convert to three fins.

Is it possible to launch this rocket?

It's fantastic. It reaches a greater height than you might expect. br>In any of my Rockets, I always use the largest engine that will fit. However, I recommend that you take the First Flight recommendation, as you may lose it!

Is there any paint on it already?

Hello,br>This is a kit, not a greeting card. It must be fully assembled before being painted. Thank you for your interest in learning more. Larry. Home of the Model Rocketry

Tin Tin's XFLR6 can be built with this awesome base kit
5/5

I wanted to build a replica of the rocket depicted in Tin Tin's book Destination Moon (the "XFLR6"), which was the first, test rocket. Since the book was published in 1953, there has been a strong design influence from the German V2 rocket used during WWII, so the V2 seemed like the ideal candidate for this project and required no modifications. This V2 was a simple build (body preformed, slotted for fin installation), and I'd rate it as a low-cost option. The challenge level is moderate. We went outside of our comfort zone because this is the first rocket I've built with an E engine. br>br>We assembled the rocket, painted the base coat red, then used masking tape in a checkerboard pattern to paint the exposed areas white; while the results aren't showroom quality, they're not bad (see photo). br>br>What's missing in comparison to what's there XFLR6: XFLR6 is an acronym that stands for "Extreme The V2 has wider fins than the XFLR6, but I decided not to cut the fins and leave them as-is for improved stability (we're going to use this as a park flyer), so that was our design choice. Next, the XFLR6 has an antenna mast, whereas ours does not. When it comes to model rockets with masts, I've found that the mast is the first thing to break off if you plan on flying it on a regular basis. Other ideas: br>br> This rocket is designed to be powered by an E engine, which is quite powerful. It also has an E-mail address. Adapter ring in the shape of a D. For our first flight, I thought even D might be a little too powerful, so I bought a C to D converter shell separately. br>br>After the first flight, I'll update this.

Building a Rocket That Is Both Fun and Challenging: The V2 Max is here! This is a fantastic kit to build, but there will be some challenges along the way because not everything is designed to be put together without tolerance issues, so you'll have to custom rig some parts and correct minor manufacturing issues, which is what Skill Level 3 is all about

br>br>I wish the concept of the fins going through the boat tail section and actually gluing to the engine mount tube and the retention clip retainer tube was made clearer in the instructions. If you get too much glue on the retainer tube, it will make it difficult to fit the fins. Sanding will help, but deciding where to sand will be difficult. These are challenges that the experienced builder will enjoy, but may not for the novice. One thing is certain: it forces you to be creative in resolving building issues and adds a layer of satisfaction to the project. br>br>I also used a hacksaw blade to cut the fin holes in the plastic boat tail section. There's still a lot of sanding to do, but it's starting to look like a rocket. Yes, you should buy a fin alignment jig for this project. br>br>I wanted the rocket to look like the V- 2 Instead of the suggested color scheme, Number 3 (May 10, 1946) used a black and yellow scheme. This was one of several post-World War II paint schemes used in White Sands, New Mexico. I couldn't help myself and threw in a Der Red Max skull. (There are no pins included. ) decal of a girl standing up As a result, Der V2 Max was born! Between the Der Red Max and Mega Der Red Max, I'll use this Der V2 Max until Estes releases a Der Red Max for 24 mm motors. It also has a VF-like quality to it. 1S Robotech Skull Leader (black and yellow with crossbones): Reminiscences of the 1980s br>br>In addition, I modified the rocket to use 200 kevlar, a 9x9 nomex sheet to supplement wadding, and a longer elastic braid for the shock cord, as suggested by the instructions. Because a nomex sheet combined with sacrificial wadding reduces the number of wadding sheets, a nomex sheet combined with sacrificial wadding is used. br>br>At the next club launch, I'll be flying this on D12- E12 and 5, respectively. 6 power. The V2 Max is here!.

Estes is a fantastic company
5/5

During my daughter's fall break, we decided to work on this V2 kit together. I've built a lot of rockets, but this was the first time I let her handle the majority of the work. It turned out fantastically! This is a lovely kit, and with a little patience, you'll be able to build a fantastic finished rocket. It's straightforward, like most Estes kits, but this one has a twist. A molded plastic piece makes up the rocket's lower section. You'll need to carefully cut slots in pre-cut pre-cut pre-cut pre-cut pre-cut pre-cut Fins can be attached through the molding by marking locations on the molding. It's not difficult, but the plastic is thick and you'll need a very sharp knife, so proceed with caution. Most of the slots cut out perfectly, but I had to scrape away some of the plastic to get the fins to fit through a couple. It's not a major issue. We used fine grit sandpaper to remove any remaining burrs or raised pieces of plastic after cutting the slots. We also sanded the nose cone, which is, of course, plastic, to help the paint stick better. Again, if this is your first rocket, it may be difficult, but if you're a crafty person, you'll figure it out. Aside from that, the kit is very simple to put together; the through-the-body fin arrangement is particularly nice; it's difficult to mess up the fin alignment, which is one of the most common problems with these kits. I would recommend this kit to anyone; just take your time and follow the instructions, and you'll have a great time putting this beautiful replica of an historic rocket together.

This is a must-have addition to any collection! This kit is a fantastic deal! The construction of a more advanced model is very simple and results in a very strong rocket
5/5

If you choose to follow the paint scheme suggested on the box, the most difficult part of the project is the painting. You must first apply a yellow base coat before masking for the black roll pattern stripes (use frog tape delicate surface tape!). However, because of the rocket's large size, masking is a breeze, as you have a much larger open surface to work with than with smaller models. I had a great time flying this model with an e engine! I'd never flown a plane that big before, and I was hooked right away! This model flew straight and true, and it puts on a fantastic show because it is large and visible for the majority of its ascent. To launch it, you'll need to buy the maxi rod, but the standard launch pad has a larger diameter hole for mounting the maxi rod, and it's well worth the extra $7 to launch the e engine rockets! This model is a must-have for any collector's collection, and it looks fantastic on a shelf.
