This is a cute version with some fun elements from nature. The theme appealed to us because we are avid hikers. It's convenient that the entire game can fit in the included cup. The only issue we had was that if you roll the dice in the cup, it leaves a black sentiment on it, which was disappointing and difficult to remove. Some of it has remained, leaving us to wonder how safe it is to handle it on a regular basis. I'm not sure what stained the dice (black powdery substance), but it looked worn after only one game. It's a shame because we like to keep our games in good shape, but if you're a casual player who doesn't mind the mess, it shouldn't be an issue.
This is a fantastic game, but the current version isn't the best; the dice are difficult to read, and you must translate the dice count from the animals for each turn. We had a house fire and needed to replace our LL Bean version, so we bought this. It's a little frustrating that determining which point value belongs to which symbol takes so long.
I know it's a travel size, but the score sheets were too small for this grandmother's eyes, so I had my daughter enlarge them. They were also double-sided, which was a huge plus. The National Parks emblem that covers a portion of the score sheets didn't appeal to me either. It was distracting for me, but it's still worth keeping!.
When we were younger, we used to play regular Yahtzee. I looked into old school games that can also help teach when I was looking for a way to help my two kids get through the quarantine. This game is exactly what you're looking for. Great for my six-year-old who is just starting to learn math skills (the symbols help her decide what to keep and what to roll) and my third-grader who is solidifying quick math facts (adding up her points). My only gripe is that the score card is printed in very small print, which made it difficult for my old eyes to read. That is, after all, my problem, and once this quarantine is over, I may need to have my eyes examined. The whole family will have a good time.
The dice, scorecards, and pencil all fit nicely into the travel container, making the game very portable. The only disadvantage is the small size of the score card print. It's a very small object. Thankfully, I was able to use a copier to enlarge the card, making the game much more enjoyable to play.
My only gripe is that the scorecard is extremely difficult to read due to the gray background of the park symbol, which makes writing in pencil impossible. To make the scorecard easier to read, I used a copier and enlarged it. It's also noisy because the cup isn't felt lined.
This was exactly what I had hoped for. However, if there was one thing that could be done differently, it would be this. It'd be the score card's background print. The print is very small, and the dark shading makes it difficult to see your score with a pencil. However, I would recommend it to anyone who is interested in playing a game set in a national park.
Same old game that we've all played before, except the dice are symbols instead of standard pips, and the rest of the rules are the same. It's small and lightweight, and it'll easily travel. My sister and her husband enjoy spending time on the trails and camps of National Parks, so they were delighted to receive this as a gift.
