Hi there! Yes, if you're in the right spot. You'll want to take your time measuring and positioning the baseplates, and you might need to leave some room between them. I had anticipated a thicker base, but it is actually quite thin and difficult to use on carpet. They are, however, of a good size!.
As a result, you'll have a 4x4 puzzle that's half Duplo and half regular. It makes a great, sturdy base for laying on carpet or putting just about anywhere. We considered making it a tabletop, but we prefer to use it on the floor, so it can simply be set up on a card table or whatever is available.
I was initially concerned after reading the reviews that it was flimsy, but upon receiving it, I discovered it to be just as thin as my Lego plate from 20 years ago. It's not flimsy in the least, but it is somewhat flexible, which comes in handy when trying to pry large "floor" pieces off. My son built on the plate today, and I was able to move the rather tall creation several times (with care) with no problems. We built on a hardwood floor, a table, and a fluffy rug. Yes, you are only purchasing the plate, but that is stated in both the item's name and description. The townhouse set and the starter set with the puppy that comes in a green box fit nicely on the plate.

You'll be fine if you know you're only getting the base, but you'll be disappointed if you're slow like me and thought you'd get some blocks as well.
I didn't bother to read the measurements; all I knew was that I needed a foundation! My 2. After receiving this, my 5-year-old was overjoyed to play with his Lego sets. I wouldn't recommend a child stepping on it while on the carpet because it's a little flimsy. If stepped on in a carpeted area, I can see it easily cracking. This is exactly what we were looking for. I'm glad it's big enough to hold a lot of Duplos. He's been pretending to play with the Duplos more since he got the base.
However, I give 5 stars based on the overall rating. This is fantastic.
