A lot of my extended family members receive OT services. I bought this for my 12-year-old developmental delay daughter. It was suggested that she use large palm-size beads that could be strung onto some string. I happened to find these and thought they might fit the bill. Having them around is a great way to engage your senses. A plastic cord is included to thread the beads on for fine motor skill development. They are designed with ridges and different textures to stimulate the senses. In addition to that, the beads are weighted, which is an excellent feature for kids who need that added.
These were meant to help my toddler develop fine motor skills, but the designers of this product should have done a better job planning their product. There is a strange phenomenon with the balls-- they have hollowed out This was a frustrating design quirk for me as a child. Some parts of the hole on the inside are wiped out, and the plastic "thread" sticks in many of them when trying to thread beads. My 30 year old self had trouble threading beads because of the issue! Just think of the frustration a baby would experience! As with the thread, the "thread" is a plastic section that splits into three sections of 3" each, presumably to avoid choking hazards. That feature is fine however, the thread sections tend to fall out In general, this product sort of works most of the time, but due to the design flaws, I would not recommend it.
I found these to be perfect for my 18-month-old twins. There is a lot of focus on them and they really love I think this is a perfect size for mm, as well.
There is work to be done. It's hard to thread the strings through the balls because the "strings" don't hold well. A very hard plastic is used for the balls As I asked for something that wouldn't break a window when it gets thrown, I was hoping for something that wouldn't hurt the kid A kid's toy that is so heavy and hard is not something you want to buy.
One of these devices is used in the occupational therapy of my grandson. The great thing about having one at home is that you can also use it. If a long string was offered instead of several shorter strings, I would be satisfied.
I have never bought a toy for my baby that was this strange. The balls are massive and the chain is not long enough to put around their neck without undoing the snap, which makes all the balls fall off. I thought it'd be more like a necklace the children could gum, but it isn't. There are a lot of balls on the chain, so it weighs a lot. It was no fun for my kids and a waste of their time. Once I'd finished with it, it went into the trash.
I received these as a Christmas gift, when I opened the package, one bead immediately stuck to the thick part of the lacing with which it came. In spite of so many attempts, we couldn't get it loose. It took me many days of frustration for the yellow lacing to break after I tugged at it with force. This means one of the yellow parts of the vase is unusable along with the bead that is stuck on it. Since the necklace now is too short with the missing piece, it can't be worn over my daughter's head (18 months) because it's too short. A complete waste of money! Do not take the risk!.
