Questions & Answers

Is there any chalkiness in the paint?

Yes, it does have a chalky texture. However, if you're going for a more gouache-like look, it's ideal; the paint isn't quite as opaque as gouache, but it dries to a matte finish.

Is it half or whole pans in these Watercolor Confection sets?

Half-pans are what they're called. Additionally, the painting is fantastic.

Is it true that these paints are lightfast? They are highly pigmented and professional grade, but there is no mention of lightfastness. ?

If you go to the Art Philosophy website, you'll notice that there's a resource tab in the drop-down menu. There's also a lightfast chart and information on pigments - Good luck with your work!

Is there a brush included with these?

No, there isn't a brush included with these pans.

Great value for the money, with a Wes Anderson flair
5/5

I paid $24 for this set. In January of this year, he was 68 years old. The package arrived as expected and on time, and I was drawn to the colors and liked the price point. br>The little black metal case is pretty cute, and I find the sides with indents for pallet use to be quite useful. The pans are plastic and have a metal lip that keeps them in place in the tin. The majority of them are snug, but the ends have some wiggle room. Plastic and paper are used to wrap each one individually. I believe they are secure once they have been opened and placed. br>A color card is included in the kit, which I found to be very helpful. I also tested the colors with two coats on a larger scale on a separate piece of paper. I will say that two shades, Jordan and Cusco, were a little difficult for me to work with because they are far more chalky than the other shades in the kit. I was looking for a kit with more browns, and it was one of the deciding factors in choosing this one, though I do wish they performed a little smoother. The colors are as follows: br>Tokyo is a city in Japan that is home to a diverse range of cultures. Rome-br>Pinkish Redbr> br>Amsterdam-Bloody/Brick Redbr> Maui-Maui-Maui-Maui-Maui-Maui-Maui- Jordan, the Passionate Orangebr>Jordan, the Passionate Orangebr>Jordan, the Passionate Orangeb Cusco- Chocolate Brownbr> br>Dubai - Clay/Mud Brown Jamaica-Brownish Redbr>Jamaica-Brownish Redbr>Jamaica-Brown Inca- Kelly Greenbr>Inca- Kelly Greenbr>Inca- Kelly Greenbr>In Budapest- Velvety Purplebr>Calgary- Yellow Ochrebr>Yellow Ochrebr>Yellow Ochrebr>Yellow Ochrebr>Yellow Ochrebr>Yellow O br>br>Eggshell Whitebr>br>The majority of the shades are very cooperative, spreading evenly and pigmented deeply. Jordan and Cusco, as previously mentioned, are the most difficult to work with, and I did notice some pigment clustering with Dubai as well. Calgary as a white impressed me because it is highly pigmented, blends well with other colors, and is simple to lighten shades with. It was simple to create each shade. able to range in thickness from thin to thick. Each shade dried down smooth, with no visible pigment clusters or chalky lines, as expected in Jordan and Dubai. I was able to blend colors quickly using the trays on the inside of the metal case. Overall, I was blown away by the collection. Very beautiful colors, all of which are a little different from what you'd expect. Beginners looking to expand their color palette should look no further than this book. If you ask me, it reminds me a little of Wes Anderson. I anticipate that the pallet will be put to a lot of use, and I am happy with my purchase. It works well on its own; the finished image below was created entirely with this palette. It's also fantastic for adding depth and definition to other, more traditional palettes. I would buy/recommend this product again.

What a fantastic find! My Prima watercolor collections are one of my favorite things in the world
5/5

I bought every set that was available and used Odyssey for the first time yesterday; these paints are absolutely stunning. It's as simple as touching a wet brush to the color you want, and there it is, rich, beautiful, and vibrant. These paints, in my opinion, are just as good as my much more expensive Winsor and Newton tube paints in terms of results. Actually, I prefer them to tube paints because pan paints are so much easier to work with. For starters, you won't have to worry about them hardening on you, nor will you have to keep spritzing them with water to keep them soft. When you're ready, the Prima paints are ready. I saw that one of the reviewers suggested using a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser to prepare the mixing area, but I've solved that potential "beading" problem by using a separate plastic plate as my mixing area, regardless of the paints I'm using. For the paints themselves, I like to keep my pans clean. You can save a lot of time and money by purchasing inexpensive plates or palettes and using something separate that is easy to clean afterward. Anyway, as others have stated, I am completely smitten by these paints. I'm glad I took the plunge and placed an order for them. They are amazing. Everyone has a great time painting!.

Playing with it is a lot of fun
5/5

AN EARLIER REVIEW OF THIS PRODUCT: This is a brand I absolutely adore!! While the quality isn't professional, it's a lot of fun to use. especially since there's no need to feel bad about wasting paint! I bought the Odyssey, Essence, and Decadent pies, and while I like them all, I think Essence wasn't as nice as the others (there were some unique colors there, like this minty color called serenity, but you might want to add some primary colors just to make things easier for yourself), but if you don't compare them to the others, you'll love them! DECADENT PIES WERE A FAVORITE OF MINE. Definitely worth the money (there are a lot of pre-mixed skin tones available). They are even more beautiful in person than they appear in online swatches. If you've never tried watercolors before, the Classics and Tropical sets in Prima are a good place to start because they have a broader color palette. The other sets have more distinct colors that aren't as well suited to mixing. br>br>UPDATE: br>br> This is something I would not buy again! If you're a beginner who bought this set to learn how to paint with watercolors and have some fun, the quality is to be expected! However, for professionals, this set is appalling, especially considering the price! They were lovely when wet, but as soon as they dried, they became chalky and had an odd texture! While I like the color scheme, I don't think this and the other prima sets should be marketed as professional. Other drawbacks include the lack of lightfast information, the opaque/chalky nature of this set, the lack of clean mixes (very muddy), and so on. This set is definitely not lightfast, as it faded quickly after only a short period of time, and it takes an eternity to use. I honestly never reach for them because they undermine my confidence as an artist! Again, whether I was a beginner or an expert, I would not buy these, even if they were on sale (and I am always up for buying things on sale). They're of poor quality, and even kids would be better off with something else. As an artist, I've had to rely on low-cost materials to complete projects, and I've never complained, but this set has turned me off low-cost watercolor in general. br>To be honest, this set is simply not acceptable, given that the market for watercolor is constantly expanding, with new, low-cost sets gaining popularity on Amazon and YouTube. It's also way too expensive for such a small set of watercolors with so many flaws. As a beginner, I would try Dugato watercolor (pigmented, vibrant, transparent, flow well, mix well) or Emooqi watercolor (48 set that are gorgeous, good color selection, mix okay with the primary colors, transparent, flow well) or Van Gogh watercolor if I was on a budget and needed a good set of watercolor. br>If I wanted to go from a beginner to a mid-level watercolor artist, I'd start with this. For range/advanced, I'd recommend the white nights (affordable for the price, wide pans with a lot of paint, good quality, transparent/semiopaque, granulates nicely) or a small set of Daniel Smith (amazing quality), Sennelier, or Rembrandt on sale.
