Is this box designed with knockouts or any other mechanism that allows cables to be accessed externally?

For conduits, cord grips and the like, you would have to make your own knockouts.

This is an absolutely fantastic box for the price. It is far superior to the YuCo boxes you can find on Amazon that are comparable in price. Having two latches on your door pretty much assures a tight seal to keep dust, debris, and moisture out. In addition, the sheet metal appears to be much thicker than YuCo boxes. All three boxes that I bought from Bud Industries, in various sizes, are to my satisfaction and have worked well for a variety projects.

When I was serving on a military base, the only boxes I saw that were better were military grade boxes

In my position as skilled trades manager at a large automobile manufacturer, I oversee the groups. I have seen boxes that are better than these when I served on US nuclear powered submarines, but this is a much less expensive box. I think the only boxes I have seen that are better are the standard Hoffman brand boxes.
