My opinion is that it isn't the case. It will most likely slip when cutting pvc if there is a difficult time, so pruning something solid like a small limb with it is unlikely to work.
Having never used this cutter before, I have no idea how to do it. My entire career has been focused on using reciprocating saws.

It is a good idea to use this product for cutting PVC pipe.
