It ensures that the blade will always be at the right angle every time. I restored blades I had thought were lost. To make all my knives sharp, I sharpened them. Sharpening scissors was part of my routine. We even took it to a Boy Scout camp so that the scouts could sharpen the knives they had just purchased at the trading post to improve their carving. For them to become razor sharp, it only takes about ten swipes per surface on each side of the blade. Investing in this is well worth it.
works great, plain and simple. Whenever my girlfriend used the kitchen knives, she complained about how dull they were. Among my friends is an aspiring blacksmith who took a sharpening class to further develop their skills. He recommended this sharpener to me after I asked his advice. For the value you get, it is not expensive. It's just water and oil, I threw the oil in the garbage. To hone on a stone, start with the coarse grit side, then move to the fine side. I'll help you. Since we have our knives sharpened, they stay that way.
The stones were purchased to replace those that were lost in a knife bag stolen from my home. I have sharpened quite a few things with these stones over the past few months, from kitchen knives to axe heads, and can honestly say they are of excellent quality. The first Arkansas stone I tried was a lot different from the ones I used previously and I was surprised at how much I liked it. I only have one complaint - the Arkansas stone is hotglued onto the base barely more than a few inches away. As far as I can tell, mine popped right off. Having said that, I doubt this will be an issue as long as you use your stones in the way you intended and do not carry them around that much like I do (I'm pretty rough on rocks, I admit). The stones are consistently good and they are my favorite for recovering knives that have been mistreated gravely.
A well designed and affordable tool that is simple and all in one. In order to achieve a good edge on a blade, a pragmatic approach is necessary. A general rule of thumb is three steps. The dings can be removed from pretty dull blades and brought back to life with this method. The cost is not needed to be increased.
With this thing, I am now able to get my buck pocket knife razor sharp enough to cut the hair on your arm. Interestingly, I do not use the provided knife angle guide. I found that it was easier to just hold the knife at an angle that is comfortable for My first step was to use the coarse stone as I did 20 strokes on each side of the blade, then to the medium stone, then to the Arkansas stone and then 20 more strokes equally on each side- it was getting pretty sharp at this point just starting to.
It is not necessary to use each individual stone. It is the mounting in the tri stone that completes the picture. If you would like to use a jig to sharpen a chisel, you will have to adjust the stones accordingly while you rotate them. There is no difference in the thickness of the stones or the plastic mounting frame.
Thus far it has been a good experience with the diamond sharpener. It has been used on a number of hunting knives and I have seen good results. While I still use just a whetstone for my main carry knife, if these hold an edge well, maybe I will take these backcountry so that people coming in with dull knives will be able to use them.
A simple to use system. The hand sharpener is a bit bigger than most. Then again, it's nice when you have the time to set it up and hone several knives at once. If you only need to touch up a blade, this is an easy tool to set up.
