As a result of the taper, I can sharpen bits of varying sizes. It is safer to sharpen the edges and the side ends of the tool because I need not worry about harming the tool. Using this file will not be helpful in sharpening your general Irwin/Russell Jennings auger bits. Such an auger sharpener may be useful for sharpening augers that come with really large tractors. As it does have safety edges on both sides, I intend to hold onto it on the chance that the style and contours of the file will prove helpful at some point. This is way too big to be used for sharpening old auger bits, so don't buy it if you plan on doing that.
