Questions & Answers

Can any extraction tool damage itself by hammering a little on it if it is hard to bite into a rounded out socket?

You don't need to tap the extractor more than a few times to "set" it. You will note that the wedges are large. To grasp the bolt, the extractor is shaped (tapered) to jam into the bolt and Do not rush be patient You can start by gripping and turning the extractor counter-clockwise with a socket or regular wrench Once the bolt is seated, turn the bolt counter-clockwise to remove it. DO NOT use a cordless drill to speed up the process. (This is true of any extractor) It is likely to chew what it is extracting, making it worse. In addition to these, we can also describe these as "easy-to-do" Is not out" They are capable of saving the day when used properly. The plastic pipe fittings do not hold up well to these because they tend to expand the threads and bind even more tightly. The author of Robert George's article says to not drill the hole larger than one inch Hopefully, this will help you remove the bolt by half (1/2) its diameter, as that will expand the metal threads further, making it even more difficult for you to remove. A sliding T-nut might be necessary for the smaller ones You will need a handle wrench (not included in this set) to grip and turn the extractor. Both can be purchased An opening of 1" and a 1/4"-wide side wall A tap and die (thread-terminated) may already have them, or if you own a small one, you may already have them

What is the 25/32 included in the package?

In other words, yes. All sizes are offered in 1/32" increments starting at 1/8" and going up to 7/8".

On the back of the screws will there be a 3/8" drive?

The extractors are not equipped with a 3/8" drive on the back. The Hew-type is used instead These sockets are designed to be driven with either a 1/2", 5/8", 3/4", 7/8", 1" or a 1" spanner or socket (depending on the size of the screw being removed).

One of my brake calipers has a 5 mil recessed hex bolt that has become stripped. What are the chances of using this to get the bolt out?

This is what worked when everything else had failed
5/5

It's just a matter of buying It seems like you are trying to loosen a seized bolt or other fastener if you are reading this. The steps you have to take are 1 of 3. To add an item to your cart, click add to cart*2. A good set of cobalt drill bits will come in handy. The products have been added to the cart. 3. Proceed to checkout. Four paragraphs. To ensure an adequate hole size for the extractor tip, drill as deep a hole as possible in the center of the bolt. 5 *br The extractor should be inserted and tapped into the appropriate size. 6 *br. You can use a socket wrench or a breaker bar to turn the extractor and watch the magic happen. The seventh point. You've been cursing that damn bolt for days now, so give everyone you see a high five. In my E46 BMW, I used this tool to remove a seized rotor set screw. There were no other methods I could use, I tried heating the piece, hammering in torx bits, and I’ve tried everything and nothing has My face would have lit up if I had been able to see my own smile at the moment the bolt hit. I have never experienced a spiritual moment like that in my life. ** * Are you Buying it already is all you need to do.

It is a terrible product
3/5

A threat to take down bad reviews was made. Zero stars is what I would give if I could. In response to my first review, I posted it right away. After I returned them the last two days, they sent me an email saying that I won't get a refund if I do not take my review down. Your money is yours to keep! A UPDATE on the situation Harassment for more than a year! The letter I just received was copied and pasted directly from their email. The boss needs to see the deleted data, so I don't want it visible on the site, so would you please help me delete the comment? This is my job, which involves an appraisal of my performance. I'll refund $25 within 24 hours. I will also send a refund to make up for your loss at the same time. My responsibility to you goes to the end, so whether it is going to be enough to compensate for your loss is up to me. It is okay if you refuse to trust me, you can still leave a comment. My promise to you is that you will definitely receive a refund. I hope you can understand what I'm trying to do. Let me know if you can help and when you Thanks a lot. This is RIDICULOUS!.

It was a great surprise to see a low quality Irwin product
3/5

All the bad reviews stood out to me as I read them. This set swayed me to purchase it because of its great reviews. There have been other screw extractors in the past, but none did an excellent job. I looked at this set and it seemed to be There was a broken exhaust stud in the small ATV head I had. During the break, there was a completely smooth break in the top of the stud. Making my mark required me to use a center punch. The hole was drilled with a left hand drill bit at a precise depth with a very small drill bit. My second step was to enlarge the hole using a 1/8" left hand bit. The drill bit to use for the smallest extractor in the set was 1/8" in diameter. In this case, I inserted the extractor as soon as the hole was the correct depth. As for securing it, I gave it a small tap with a rubber mallet. Turning it in slowly with a wrench was the next step. I was very pleased with the way it went in. noticed it got tight as soon as the depth surpassed the maximum. Once I had it pressed, I took just a little pressure from it. A total of less than a 1/2" was moved by the wrench and the wrench was snapped off flush with the top of This extraction equipment is either too soft and will break rather easily or it is too brittle and will snap off rather My guess is that it is hardened steel, since I have to drill into the extractor in the middle of the stud now, and it is not drilling easily. It's really unfortunate that this set didn't work out for me. Irwin, thanks for your comment. As soon as I saw all the reviews about the exact same problem, I should have sought alternative services. Boxing it up and sending it back, I did so. What are the chances that there is an actual screw extractor set that actually gets stuck bolts, screws, or studs out?.

This set will work! Do not give up on it! Life could not be better without these extractors
5/5

The fill plug on my transfer case was so tight I completely stripped it out when I tried to take it off after I recently replaced the case. Initially, I tried welding a nut to it, but the nut stripped, and then I went on to try welding a ratchet extension, but the extension broke. It took me 30 minutes blowtorching it for 30 minutes and using a chisel to get the nut and extension off before drilling it out and trying The first three sizes I tried were unable to fit. My drill bit broke just a few seconds after I bought it. I went to Home Depot and bought a bigger one. I drilled it out, hammered it in, and then blasted the plug for 5 minutes and it snapped right off. Cheat with a 3 foot cheater bar (with the help of a 3 foot It was clear to me from the beginning that I would have to take it to a machine shop, have them drill it out and rethread it, and then disassemble the transfer case to clean it Savings of hundreds of dollars were achieved by this set.

Buy this before you need it and you will be glad you did
5/5

It would be best to buy the equipment before you need it if you fix your own cars and do home projects. Most likely, if you have even opened this, you need to have For a plumbing pipe break, I had to use this extractor since I had smaller sets of extractors. The price on Amazon was a lot cheaper than what I could find locally. I waited 2 days to get it, but it saved me a lot of frustration. As of yet, I have not found Irwin quality to be disappointing. In the past years, my tool boxes have found more and more Irwin branded tools in them.

This is excellent
5/5

The extractor set is an excellent product at a great price. It is the best value you will find if you need There were some obvious signs that the package may have had a rough ride during transit, but it was easy to fix. The machining of the threads was rough on one of the extractors, but I am not sure whether that will have an effect on its performance. As easy to use as you could wish for. On the back of the size chart, there is a clear explanation of how to use it. I feel the extractors are very sturdy, even though they also might be a bit overbuilt Especially since they were built in the U. S. , which is perfect. This is an awesome set of extractors! Two of the last four photos have been post-extracted. I was pleasantly surprised at how well the extractor worked.

some trial and error to figure out what size worked best, but it did the job very well once I got it down
4/5

Once I figured out the right size, I used it to remove a stuck, stripped crank cover from my bike. It took a bit of trial and error to figure it out, but it worked very well once I got it going. All the items seem to be of high quality and will last for generations to come. These products are typically oiled, which is normal for this type of product. It would be great if they would stay in the case, but they don't. Take the box and shake it a bit, and you'll see all the pieces fall out of their spots.
