For breakage, I believe there is a lifetime warranty and not a wear and tear warranty. The linesman I have used for years, Klein linesman, has lost much of its effectiveness over time.
Selected User Reviews For Knipex 09 12 240 9.5-Inch Ultra-High Leverage Lineman's Pliers with Fish Tape Puller and Crimper
From Knipex, I bought a pair of diagonal cutters and a linesman, but gave both of them back. It was really easier to use as I have a pair of needle nose tools that I really enjoy. However, there was a very noticeable lack of cutting power when using the diagonal cutters. HF provided a fairly cheap pair of Quinn from which I made test cuts (14 to 6 AWG) and they were both just about My expectation was that it would be easier to use the Knipex, but it actually took as much effort. It was super nice and comfortable to hold the linesman pliers, and they seemed very well made. Unfortunately, the very first case I received was knicked and scratched up right out of the package. On the 2nd pair, once I cut 10 awg it chipped the blade (pictured). Now my cheapo linesman is able to cut 10 awg, but it takes some effort and I have never chipped the blade. It is expected that a prestigious brand and the stellar reviews from other electricians on Amazon and YouTube would result in a higher level of quality. The second pair of shoes was also returned to me in the end. The only reason for giving this review a three instead of a one is because Amazon's customer service rep, Angel, was very thorough, kind, and patient with me.
In a nutshell, spending two years with a pair of pliers because several pairs in a row had blatant quality issues. I started with these lineman pliers and the 8" dikes around two years ago, and fell in love with them. In a very short time, I had acquired a whole arsenal of Knipex tools, essentially replacing all of my pliers and cutters. A few of my fellow electricians have also converted to this way of life. I made a blunder and cut a hot 24VDC cable, leaving a hole larger than 18AWG in my prized lineman cables. My phone instantly pulled out a replacement and I ordered it right away! As it turns out, like my trade, HVAC doesn't rely as heavily on linemen as it does mine. I gave my old pair away to a relative who is just getting started in HVAC. On my second day at work, I was labeling some cabinets when I noticed that my BRAND NEW pliers weren't cutting through the label tape completely. It was the last bit that I had to rip off. The pull string on any of the low voltage cables I run does not penetrate them. As a summary These are the most wonderful pliers I have ever seen or owned when they are used correctly. It turned out that I got a bad pair of shoes. The knife blades are translucent when the jaws are closed, so you can see daylight through them.
The worst part is that if I return them, I would have to buy another pair to hold me over until the new ones arrive. That pretty much leaves me with Klein or Southwire from a big box store or supply shop. It is unfortunate that we must make this choice. It is my sincere hope that Knipex's Quality Control department will not end up like Klein's.
During my 30 years of owning Klien, I worked as an electrician for IBEW. My experience with Knipex was amazing as they immediately blew Klein out of the water. The linesman were very sharp and soft. It is not my style to buy American products, I buy what is of good quality and these are much No matter what you want -- tools or cars -- get a quality product regardless of where you live!.
The difference between a pair of Klein linemen I have owned several pairs of Klein that rusted within a week of being unpackaged My last resort was to switch brands after the handle snapped off. The steel knives made by Knipex are made with exceptional quality and do not rust. In an attempt to recover an elderly woman's escaped dog, the dog was lost, so to replace it, we are purchasing a new I bought this set for my husband because he is not only an electrician, but also owns a reputable electrical business in our area. It is, without a doubt, the highest quality lineman pliers available.
My opinion was that Klien Pliers were the best because I thought they were the best. Boy did I get it wrong. Normally I prefer to Buy American items, but these Klien pliers do a far better job. I cut up to #2 awg wire without any problems. Breaking In is what they do when they arrive. There are not enough praises to be sung.
The Klien lineman pliers model J2000 are similar to this set, almost the same. Although the knipex fish tape puller is only on the back face of the pliers, the design makes it feel more natural when pulling wire, which is what one needs these pliers for, otherwise just use a cheap pair of lineman's pliers. If it comes to electricians pliers, I am a fan of Knipex.
As a result of the rivet being closer to the blades, cutting something requires less effort. Despite their strength, however, they can't withstand damage use copper or aluminum instead. Please do not cut screws or steel that has been hardened.
This tool is equipped with super serrated jaws which are very good at gripping slippery items in their path, excellent cutting blades and a fish tape gripping feature which seems like it will be useful at some point. Knipex pliers are another set that will stand up to a lifetime of abuse and still work like the day they were made.
