The 3lb hammer I used for this was perfect. In my opinion, the handle is too short for a head that weighs 8 pounds. There are 12 1/2" in it

A good but light piece of work

Wood of good quality and of good construction. It is light enough to use it as a sledge hammer, however. A handle with a light weight will feel unbalanced for heads weighing more than 3 pounds. It would be nice if the handle was heavier when it comes to.
