You could probably do it, but it's better suited to the softer asphalt-based sound deadening material used in automobiles. Vinyl is denser/harder, so I imagine it would take a lot of effort. I seem to recall vinyl floor seam rollers having a slightly longer handle and a wider/heavier, larger diameter roller.
I don't see why you couldn't do that with it. I believe this roller could be used for more than just sound mat installation. By the way, it's a fantastic roller; I adore it. I hope this has been of assistance.
It has a low durometer hardness, but it's solid and would take some careful work to cut with a very sharp utility knife. Scissors are not something I would recommend because I believe they would harm both items.

mats for proofing This was purchased to be used in the sound-proofing process. My classic car now has sound-deadening mats. Ball bearings are used in the roller. It's smooth because of the bearings. The roller material is ideal for the job, and the wood handle is sturdy and comfortable to hold; another feature I wasn't aware of when I purchased it was the curved steel end of the handle, which is ideal for pressing into tight corners that the roller can't reach. Having this tool in your arsenal was/is a great idea.
I bought this roller to help my sound deadening material stick better. br>I usually find that the wood handle on cheap rollers breaks after a few uses due to the amount of pressure you must apply to the material. br>I don't hear any early cracking from the handle, and the roller is quite firm and makes excellent contact with the material I'm working with. In addition, unlike some cheaper rollers, the roller does not walk off its center point. This roller holds its position and is true to its name. The roller wheel itself is vibration-free and spins smoothly and freely, similar to a skateboard or inline skate wheel. br>br>As an extra tip, I'd recommend filing the sharp 90-degree edge on the roller's corner to keep the roller wheel from cutting into your material. This will break in over time with a lot of use, but it will take a long time. br>All you have to do now is use a flat file to slightly bevel the edge. br>br>Aside from that, there isn't much else to say about such a basic product; it's well-made and does the job. br>Wishing you the best of luck with your projects.
I applied sound deadener to the entire trunk of my car with this roller. I suppose it worked to some extent, but I also purchased some metal rollers with ridges (rather than the smooth rubber roller) that did a MUCH better job of adhering the deadener. To make this work, I had to put a lot of pressure on myself. This rubber roller helped to smooth it out and make it look nicer once it was applied, but who cares in the trunk? I believe the utility of this tool is determined by the purpose for which it is used.
acoustic dampener with a rubber base This was purchased in order to install sound dampening material in my vehicle. The roller itself has a smooth ball bearing action and a soft enough composition to help it get around curves and bumps. br>br>Handle appears to be of adequate durability. I put a lot of pressure on the handle, but it didn't flex. In the hand, it feels fine.
The roller is not centered with the handle, which is difficult to see in the photos. It's difficult to apply a lot of pressure to the roller without it tipping over onto its edge as a result of this. Only use this if you're rolling very light.
It was the perfect size for the job and arrived the next day, as promised, in perfect condition. The roller is made of a soft material that helped me relieve sciatica pain by rolling it over the painful area. It's a two-in-one device that I absolutely adore and would recommend to anyone.
Use this if you're installing a sound mat or similar product. This item is extremely durable. I'm 6'5"/270 lbs, and I leaned heavily on this roller while installing 80 mil KilMat in my rig, and it's held up admirably. There are no sloppy bearings or handles. It hasn't bowed or warped in any way. It's as good as new, with the exception of a few minor gouges in the roller head from rolling over sharp edges, etc. If you're using a pressure-sensitive material like DynaMat, KilMat, or the like, it's well worth the $10.
I haven't had the opportunity to use the product yet, so I can't comment on its effectiveness. It appears to be functional, and the wheel is hard enough to effectively press the material while remaining soft enough to work it into the bends and crevices of the floor pan. br>I've had a chance to try out the roller, and it's pretty good for the price. It can be difficult to get into the small tight corners of the floor pan and under the back seat areas around the seat belts because they are a bit large. On large, flat surfaces, it appears to work better. Suitable for a wide range of applications.
