If you want to buy additional stakes, you may not be able to do so. The holes were dug by my husband and pvc pipe was installed in them. Once these stakes were inside the pvc, we put them in place. I found it to be just right. In other words, when he mows the lawn now, he removes the stakes and torches and then reinstalls them. You may be able to solve your problem this way. We were able to use the solution.
Here is a product I think would be a good fit for you. You can see it on Amazon in the Bebrant Extension and Joint Kits 4-pack It appears these Torches would fit, but I have not studied it yet. Package of 12" Solar Flame Torches, Taller Tiki Torches I would think they would fit, but I haven't As soon as I get some other items to order, I will order some. It only came with three of the center pieces when I received my TomCare Solar lights, but they did come with four lights and all parts. There are 2 parts that connect to each other. In my opinion, it would be easier to buy this set than to send back all four and wait for them to be sent.
It is possible to change the battery, and YES, the battery needs to be replaced. If they did not run during the NIGHT, what would they do? The off position was selected when I received mine. It appears that they will only charge while the lamp is on, not while off.

The month of November 2017 has ended. Luminous leds that mimic the flame of a fire. This is outstanding! Having a lot of cloud coverage is a result of living in the northwest. I charged them inside on my first use and they flickered all night long. It has been bad weather, so the flies are dying out in a few hours. There is something enchanting about the flickering flame.
In order to rejuvenate the patio area in my back yard, I purchased four new patios.
