That is correct. I'm assuming you have a fitter ring with small tightening screws. That was effective for me.
Although this one has the proper fitter, I already have it in my bathroom. I'm not sure it'd work outside.

I really liked the globe that was broken, but I couldn't find one that looked exactly like it, and I couldn't find one with a 4" fitter, which was what I needed. While I preferred the broken globe, this is a lovely replacement that hangs beautifully from my bathroom ceiling. It's both strong and attractive. I would strongly suggest it.
During my research, I discovered that four in. It's difficult to find glass shades that fit. Then I came across this little gem on Amazon. It's a perfect match for my new French country bedroom. It is made of high-quality etched glass. It gives the 15-minute mark a new meaning. years- The old Hunter fan looks as if he's worth a million dollars.
This glass is etched, not white as shown in the Amazon image. It's clear glass that has been sandblasted or acid etched on the exterior to diffuse the light and add a nice contrast. I measured it and it has a 4" OD opening on top, about 8 1/4 inches tall, and about 7" wide. I did find three small casting defects (see photos) on it, which are just small imperfections in the glass that you can easily see while handling it, but are pretty tough to spot at a distance. We received one that was broken, but we contacted customer service and received a replacement within a few days.
This works perfectly, but the 4" opening is slightly different, so keep your hold screws in mind. But antique lights are different and not all the same, but they match the rest of my lights perfectly. The perfect thickness of frosted glass. I was attempting to replace an old ceiling fan with a more modern model. Victorian-era victorian-style furniture was discovered. I was looking for something to go with my small glass shades, and I couldn't find anything.

Although the shade is frosted rather than white as shown in the photo and description, customer service was excellent.
