Product Description

By entering your model number, you can make sure that this fits.
Waterproofing Membrane Mesh provides extreme waterproofing and prevents other sources of moisture from penetrating your shower wall, tiles, pan, curb, niche, and flooring for up to 40 years.
Packs a formidable water barrier capability in an optimal thickness and resists fracturing even when bent at extreme angles, allowing the AVERAGE AMERICAN HOMEOWNER WITH LITTLE TO NO WATERPROOFING EXPERIENCE to finally complete the PERFECT SHOWER PROJECT that is ON PAR or even BETTER in comparison to projects done by PROS, both in looks and functionality.
It's tough but flexible, so it's simple to cut, position, and install. This water barrier tape is easy to work with because it does not wrinkle or shrivel over time and has the right thickness.
If you're not sure which Waterproofing liquid formula to use, we can help. All common waterproofing polymers (RedGard, Laticrete, Hydro Barrier, AquaDefense, and so on) are compatible with the X Fasten Anti-Fracture Membrane Fabric, making it the most versatile waterproofing fiberglass mesh tape on Amazon.
Because of its optimal thickness, this waterproof fiberglass fabric is easily pliable, resulting in minimal buildup at seams and a neat application even on sharp corners. The tape's tear-resistant layer allows for quick installation, saving you time and effort.

Questions & Answers

How well does this work for shower corner joints on the inside and outside? Will it bed into a 90/180 degree angle with ease?

Yes. When I was waterproofing a shower with Redguard, I first used mesh tape and mortar on all joints and corners (on the inside and outside). The membrane fabric was then embedded in all joints and corners, and Redguard was applied to all surfaces. Outside and inside corners are easy to fold with this fabric.

Is this a self-adhesive product?

Hello Ebubba, The XFasten Fiberglass Waterproofing Membrane, like all other membrane fabric tapes, does not contain any adhesive. It's designed to be used as a waterproofing layer over a substrate. br>br>We hope we were able to provide you with a satisfactory response to your query. Please do not hesitate to contact us through our Amazon storefront if you have any additional questions. Thank you for your time and consideration, and have a wonderful day!

Can I use this on the cracks in the cinderblock walls of my basement?

No, it's not for concrete or brick walls.

It appears to be a good alternative to Custom Bldg, which is proprietary
5/5

The items' For a RedGard shower and shower pan I'm building, I wanted to get the Custom Building Products' 6" fiberglass mesh, but the you-know-what got in the way. know- I'd have to find a local Custom Building Products distributor and wait if the orange Big Box store didn't have it in stock. It's Sunday, and I'm looking for a supported replacement for RegGard's proprietary fabric. I'd like to get started right away. br>br>I ordered the Laticrete waterproof membrane reinforcement fabric from Amazon, but I'm not sure if it'll work with RedGard (i. e. The product range of Custom Building Products). I didn't want to run out of reinforcement tape, so I went to get a second roll of Laticrete, only to discover that xFasten was half the price! So I went out and bought a roll, decided to compare them, and am going to tell you what I discovered. br>br>Custom Building Products' anti-microbial products Fracture tape is alkali resistant fiberglass, according to the manufacturer. For use with RedGard waterproofing membrane over changes of plane, Custom Building Products recommends alkali resistant fiberglass. Unfortunately, the Laticrete product does not contain fiberglass, or at least does not state that it does. xFasten, on the other hand, is an alkali-resistant fiberglass. br>br>I directly compared xFasten to Laticrete fabric and found them to be similar. Both have high sheer resistance, but xFasten appears to be the more powerful of the two. xFasten is a softer, more pliable alternative to traditional fasteners. The Laticrete fabric is a little more structured/rigid, but it's still soft and fiberous, and it's a breeze to work with. The Laticrete fabric is better at holding creases and folds, while the xFasten fabric is easier to "re-fold. " On the fly, "calibrate" br>br>In my opinion, all three manf's 6" waterproof membrane reinforcement tape will suffice for the job (i. e. liquid re-enforcement I used xFasten instead of the Laticrete fabric because I needed to get my shower pan inspected by the city, and I wanted to be sure I could tell the inspector if they asked that I met the RedGard criteria (fiberglass, alkali resistance), so I went with xFasten instead of the Laticrete fabric. If it had been Monday, I would have simply called Custom Building Products' support line and asked if the Laticrete fabric (or xFasten) is RedGard compatible.

It's all good
5/5

What can I say, it was exactly what I was looking for. It worked, and it didn't cost a fortune. If I may make a suggestion, if you have never used this, I have some advice: I had never used it paint on membrane because I couldn't find it in the stores where I shop. But, regardless of how difficult it is to get the exact measurement of the seem tape, I decided to begin. My advice is to not overlap tape. As an illustration: Start your tape at the edge of the corner tape and make your run after you've finished your corners and have a horizontal but joint. The reason for this is that you must first paint the membrane on the joint, then apply tape, and finally paint the membrane on top of the tape. If your tape overlaps, you'll have a significant bulge that will prevent you from completing a professional tile job. Take note of what I've done wrong. I got lucky because the tile the customer chose was such an oddball and came in a variety of thicknesses, and they wanted that look where you couldn't tell the tile covering the bulges was sticking out a little.

Great for a shower project; I decided to DIY my shower because the costs were far too high for something I could do myself
5/5

We had to redo the shower because the home builder (or rather, the tile people who installed it) did it incorrectly and there were leaks. I looked up how to complete the project on YouTube, which has a wealth of useful information. I saw a video of someone using a product similar to this with a waterproofing compound, so I bought it and tried it out with AquaDefense. I started by putting up the concrete panels, then used mesh tape and thinset to adhere everything together. After it was dry, I applied a layer of AquaDefense and then covered it with this material while it was still wet. To make the installation go faster, I precut the pieces and had all of the fold and bend cuts ready to go. I recoated the top after installing this product to allow the waterproofing to soak in. I applied a second coat after allowing it to dry, and it worked beautifully. Those one-star reviews claiming that this isn't waterproof, well, duh. It makes no pretense of being one. This should be used in conjunction with a waterproofing compound such as RedGuard, AquaDefense, or another similar product. It was neither too thin nor too thick for me. It worked perfectly for the task at hand.

It's quite effective
5/5

I was skeptical at first, but after using it on a custom shower installation, I was pleasantly surprised. Apply a thick layer of liquid membrane to the wall along the seam you're sealing, then press the tape into it with your fingers and a putty knife. Once you've smoothed out any wrinkles, apply another thick layer of liquid membrane on top and smooth everything out. Apply a second layer of liquid membrane after it has dried. It adds a lot of strength and appears to be effective at waterproofing joints and other seams.
