I don't think so. With sliding doors where the casing and sliding door were both flat, it was used on those as well. The latch half of the round post could be mounted securely by placing a flat surface on the round post, if it is feasible for you to do so.
This is on wood in my case, but would work on metal as well. In order to prevent my children from falling down steps, I use it to lock gates. As the screws on this lock are on the outside and could be removed, it's more of safety lock than security lock.
