This could be used as a cane tip, but we have a steel-reinforced tip that gives you more ground contact. 9742 is the part number for that component. It'll fit a cane with a 3/4" outer diameter. 7/8".
The Shepherd Hardware 8755E isn't designed to glide across carpet. Shepherd Hardware 3943 or 3944 are two options that I would recommend. This item is designed to float on carpet.
Although the product is waterproof and adds grip in the shower, it does not completely eliminate risk. Chair legs are the most common use for these rubber tips.

My wooden chairs are a little beat up, and there are a couple of sharp edges that would scrape the floor. I tried sticking on felt pads at first, but it was a nightmarish experience. They'd end up covered in dog hair. They were going to unstick. I don't have any of those issues now that I'm wearing these caps. I initially purchased the incorrect size, but returning it and trying on the next size down was a breeze. They're a perfect fit, and there'll be no scraping. The only disadvantage I can think of is that they are so sturdy that the chairs no longer slide. To pull them out or tuck them in, I need to lift them.
In my Art class, we use these to cover the chairs. The bottoms of these cups are cut by steel tubes, which must be replaced at least once a year. It doesn't help that I don't have any carpet on my concrete floor. Some of them break apart on the side and fall off. However, it's preferable to scratching the painted floor in these circumstances.
I have a set of four antique redwood and aluminum lawn chairs. The rubber feet have seen better days, to say the least. br>These are an excellent substitute. Because each chair has two front individual legs and a loop for the back, I only needed eight. I was able to save money by purchasing them in bulk rather than just the eight I required.
As a stand-in, these performed admirably. To keep the tube from cutting into the rubber, I had to add flat washers at the bottom. The chair tubes had plugs at the ends, but some of them had dry rotted and needed to be replaced with flat washers.
To avoid scratching our boat dock floor, we use these on our outside furniture. They're made of rubber, and they do a fantastic job of protecting the floor. They accomplish our objectives. We were doing our annual boat dock spring cleaning the other day, and the chair caps were practically disintegrating in our hands. I'll keep using them because they're such a good deal; I just ordered a bunch to have on hand. I'm not complaining because they're such a good deal and work perfectly; just plan on replacing them once a year if you use them outside.
It's quite durable. These were purchased to replace the worn rubber feet on four vintage kitchen chairs, and they were a perfect fit. They aren't going to fall off. They look fantastic, as if they were designed specifically for my 1950s chairs. It was also a good value because one package covered all four chairs.
I bought a few sets of silicone chair leg tips, but they would either not stay on the leg or would split. These have an industrial look to them, but they stay put and show no signs of wear. They are as good as new after I take them off and wash them every now and then.
There are so many of these that I've been running around the house trying to figure out where else I can put them. They were originally purchased for our cabin cruiser's deck chairs, but they also work well indoors. Very well constructed.
