A great idea for a product, only one similar to it on the market so far. There is a problem when the door is 2X4 material and the door frame is made of 2X4. A shaft of this length would be too short. Your product could be as thick as 4 inches. Five eighths of an inch rather than five You claim that it is 1/2” in diameter. Five inches is the full length of the shaft You just need to extend the shaft by an inch or two. Users can also cut the shafts to any length they want or even make it so they can easily switch out the shafts at both ends and have several lengths of square stock available.
The shaft should have been longer, as I should have gotten it. The model fits through the door of my shed just barely because everything is stacked very high. Trimmed with 1x4 and 3x4 on the edge, 1/2" of OSB, and 3x4 on the center. It is about 4 1/2" long from the latch to the shaft and the latch just slides on enough to function. The latch does not fit properly on the other door, so I would like to install a metal plate there but I do not have enough room to put one and would have to.
It would be possible to negate this with longer screws. Well, if you're relying on the inside latch to keep someone from getting the screws out and pulling it off, it's not going to work. It's a very small set screw that in no way could withstand someone yanking on it, because it is not robust enough to be able to withstand pulling all the way If possible, use longer screws, and you might be able to mark the spot where you want the rod to go with a dab of something on the inside of the set screw, and dimple the rod just enough to get the set screw to hold tighter, and it should work fine.
The handle can be adjusted to the desired level of tension to get the perfect fit. It's doubtful how solid the lock would have been against a smack with a hammer. As you can see, I added a padlock with security cover, however the latch is fantastic.
As soon as I replaced the broken hand grip with something that would fit my shed, I measured and ordered it. I have been looking forward to getting this and installing it. The event was a big disappointment, however. A single key operated the lock easily, out of three that came with it. I got it attached to the shed, but it wouldn't stay on because the set screw holding the interior handle on wouldn't stay on. I didn't even screw it in far enough to touch the shaft, so I consider that a complete failure. Having returned home.
I found the installation to be very straightforward. All that needs to be done is a quick Allen key adjustment to the slide latch. The area around the lock has been routed to give it a nice tight.
A replacement was needed for a T-Shirt that already existed There was a problem with this handle. The fit and performance of this product is excellent. Not sure why we waited so long to buy it.
Installing and using this door lock is easy, it's very strong, and it's easy and quick to use. Despite the door lock fitting great and being adjustable for 3-persons, it works great. The thickness of the door is 5".
