Would anyone be able to provide a photo showing this with a 2x4? It looks like there's not much depth to the "J" on the front and short sides. ?

A bar holder holds one bar. Putting a 2x4 across your front door would take a real battering ram to get through. If you bought two, I would suppose you could put one across each side of the door. You must make sure that the deck screws are buried as far as possible into a stud or frame when you use #8 deck screws.

With the bar holder, I use deck screws #8, which are available at any hardware store. A 2x4 mounted on a finished 1 5/8" long board won't go through it since it will not pass through it. Additionally, I changed the drawing on the pictures to indicate that the distance is 4 inches long (the longest part). My goal was to create a bar holder integrating a 1 x 4 finished (which is far from a 1 x 4) and a rough band sawn. There's no way I can do it without you As a Texas homeowner I use rough hewn cedar on my shed, and in the rainy season, which we do have, that can be a little tight, even if I left my 2x4 a little room to grow. I thought they would be bigger, but they are smaller than I thought they would be. To order in each you must place an order. It does not come in a pack of two nor does it come with hardware to hang it. Product of high quality.

The bracket fits a 2x4 as claimed however, given how expensive they are, I will likely purchase this somewhere else.
