Questions & Answers

The lock on the screen door has been activated. However, when the key is in the lock position, it cannot be removed. Please give me some advice. ?

As a result, take apart the assembly and rotate the locking bar. Before reinstalling, make sure it's not locked.

Is this product covered by a warranty? I've had to replace my front door latch twice in the last month and am looking for a more permanent solution or a return policy. ?

If that's what you're asking about, I believe Amazon will accept a return of the product and refund your money. I had assumed that this latch would be a direct replacement for my previous latch. That was not the case. I had to re-drill holes and so on. For a cheap device that's now on a basement shelf, a lot of extra time and effort was put in. That door needed a new latch, so I had a locksmith replace it.

Is there a screw on the bottom of the handle?

Yes, there is a screw on the bottom of the handle.

How long does the handle alone measure? Is the push button made of metal or plastic?

6 inches from the top to the bottom; a button made of metal

Instead of using a separate spiral spring, this design incorporates one
5/5

It was incredibly simple to set up! This is a simple screen/storm door handle latch replacement - not keyed in any way! Extra strikes and screws have been added to accommodate various sizes. br>br>It's simple to set up - It took about 5 minutes to complete. in the case of this elderly person - If you're replacing a latch, make sure the holes are spaced according to the current industry standard. You'll need to match the thickness of your door to the two screws included (which come in a variety of sizes). The most difficult part of the installation is simply ensuring that the latch operates correctly from both sides by adjusting the length of the bar (which snaps off to various lengths depending on the thickness of the door). The inner handle will not latch/unlatch or may not stay locked if the bar is not snapped to the correct length, and the outer button may appear to latch rather than unlatch if the bar is not snapped to the correct length. br>br>As others have pointed out, the strike plates included in this set are not the spring-loaded variety. Rather than a bar, a solid type is used. Two height plates are included to accommodate all of the various types of doors and spacings that have been used in the past, and you can also use this with a spring-loaded door. You'd have to pay a few dollars for a bar plate, though. Two plastic shims are also included to allow for more precise adjustment of the strike height. As previously mentioned, the two screws come in a variety of lengths to accommodate various door thicknesses. br>br>I gave this latch set 5 stars because of one feature in particular: There are no obtrusive easy-to-use features. Unlike almost every other low-cost latch replacement set, this one does not include a separate spiral spring. Instead, the outer handle incorporates the spring functionality. Wow, why haven't all the other manufacturers done this instead of relying on that annoyance of a separate spiral spring that is so easy to lose when putting the latch on the door? [I'll admit, I thought it was just a missing part at first, but it's been replaced by something that's actually attached to the handle. ] ]br>br>For that reason alone, as well as the low-cost I give this 5 stars because of the low cost of this Amazon add-on item. If you know how to use a screwdriver, you should have no trouble installing this.

On the back of the latch, there is a very sharp piece
3/5

I noticed some blood on my hand while installing this and looked down to see that I'd been cut on my right index knuckle, three places on my left index finger, and across my thumb knuckle. I was taken aback because I had only spent a few minutes installing the product's handle and latch. On closer inspection, I noticed a piece of metal on the back of the inside latch part that was as sharp as a dull razor blade; I'm not sure if this was just a part that hadn't been deburred or sanded down properly, or if it's the same on other runs of this product; I worked as a machinist and metal fabricator for years, and this is an unacceptable manufacturing oversight; just by handling the product while installing it, I've been left.

The handle is simple to replace, but the lock is not
3/5

UPDATE: After less than a year, this product developed issues - The metal bar pierced the knob and punched a hole in it (see second photo). I bought a less expensive one and ended up using the knob and door frame from that one, but kept the handle from this one. ORIGINAL REVIEW: BR>BR>ORIGINAL REVIEW: BR>BR>ORIGINAL REVIEW: BR>ORIGINAL REVIEW br>I used this to replace an old storm door handle from the late 1970s. No new holes had to be drilled; all that was required was to shorten the "spindle" by two notches as directed. It took about ten minutes to complete the installation. The strike plate that came with this one was a plain piece of metal, whereas the old one had a more robust "bar in a channel" design (see lower right corner of my photo). The only flaw is that the lock does not indicate whether it is locked or not. I can click down the lock while the door is open and still release it with the outside button. Another thing I discovered was that the old lock had a "leaf design" above it, whereas the new one does not. However, the back of the package indicates that they also make that design (the VC333 rather than the V333) if I wanted it. Thankfully, there were no holes hidden behind it, so it looks fine on the door.

Simple to set up - a sufficient foundation We had an old storm door that we were planning to replace (along with many other projects)
4/5

I was worried about a dog break-in because the latch was worn out. br>br>I ordered the "aluminum" finish, which I expected to be metal with a clear coat, but is actually a metallic paint. All of the holes lined up with the holes in my old handle, making installation a breeze. The latch plate wouldn't fit in the old plate's holes - The plate for the new latch had to be closer to the door than the old one. It's not a problem with the product; it's just my door. br>br>Seems to work well and latches tightly (sorry, doggos). I'm going to have to confine myself to the house).

This is far superior to my first attempt
5/5

Yesterday, around 3 p. m. , my son broke the screen handle. 00pm. I looked for a replacement on Amazon and came across this. I placed my order, and it arrived by noon the next day. It took me 15 minutes to set up. It performs admirably in comparison to the original. Due to the all-metal construction, this one is actually superior. Shortening the rod is the most difficult part. I tried bending it to break off the piece to shorten it as per the directions, but it was difficult. I solved the problem by using a cutoff wheel. It also comes with a lifetime warranty, so all I have to do is give them a call if the deflective part fails. Make a note of the model number as well as the company's phone number in case you need it. My paperwork is scanned and saved to my computer, resulting in less clutter. I hope it all goes well.
