For this to work, your door must swing in towards you; residential doors are designed to swing into the house, and that is exactly what this is for.
Mine does not flip in the same way, but it does push the door open. It's more of a spring-loaded flip lock than a simple flip.
To open, you must pull the top piece out. If you hold the piece in your left hand with the front facing you, for example, you can pull the top part out to the right and it will open. For additional security, these are the best locks. Ours is one of our favorites.

We install them on the upper jamb and then lower them to lock them in place. Because they're designed to be used vertically rather than horizontally, they'll need something to hold them up when they're not in use so they don't fall down and get in the way of the door closing. We're making do with small pieces of cardboard for now, but someone else suggested sticking them up with stick-on Velcro. That's what I'll be doing in the near future.
It was extremely aggravating! After that, it's just a matter of getting your own screws and installing it. br>The product is fantastic in and of itself. There's no way to open a door that one of these has latched without making a lot of noise and exerting a lot of effort. br>They're also very simple to lock and unlock. Once you know what you're doing, it only takes a fraction of a second. br>However, there is one word of caution here. While they are simple to use once you understand how they work, they are not intuitive to someone who has never used them. When someone enters my house and sees that I have one latched, I always show them how to use it in case there is an emergency and I am not available to help. But, at the same time, I always tell them how much I enjoy them and how much safer I feel when I'm at home with them.
To open and close, you'll need some practice. The brass version differs from standard brass in appearance. I bought a few of these to use as doorknobs throughout the house. Metal, brushed, and brass are just a few of the materials that come to mind. To begin, use longer screws to provide additional support (they come with 1" screws, which are adequate but not ideal for securing the door). It's preferable to use screws that are at least 2 or 3 inches long. Second, if you need to leave your house quickly, they require some practice to open quickly. After installation, make sure to practice opening and closing the door, especially if you have children or seniors in your home. Finally, the brass version isn't compatible with standard brass doorknobs. It's a little more orange than the original, but it's not worth returning. Just keep that in mind if you're particular. Our toddler recently learned how to open all of our house's doors in an attempt to play outside. We've seen a variety of toddler locks used in various homes, with varying degrees of success, but a friend recommended these, and we're so glad she did. They can be installed at any height on the door (high enough that only adults can reach them), and they actually provide a little extra security at night, since they're essentially an extra deadbolt. They also blend in well with our door when closed, which I appreciate. When you have a full hand, they can be a little difficult to open, but I'd rather they be sturdy to protect my children and a little difficult to open than flimsy just to be easy to manipulate. What a fantastic purchase!.
This is fantastic! The lock must be operated with two hands, and the door has no wiggle room. The cable bolts we tried had too much 'give,' and yanking on the door caused the door trim to come off, among other things. Not so with these! We've been showing and recommending them to anyone who has a loved one suffering from dementia. We went with a brass color because it goes well with the door's grain. There is no 'give' in the door, and it will not open. Because the screws were driven into the door's side frame, it is now even more secure. I would highly recommend this product and would purchase it again.
Overall, the installation went well; however, the provided screws are relatively short, which defeats the purpose of installing this because one good kick (or two) would bust the trim that those screws mount to. To ensure that this was securely fastened to the framing stud, I used my own 3" screws. As a result, I give the security features a 3 out of 5.
This was installed to add a layer of security. It does not make the door kick-proof; rather, it makes it more durable. It's also a quick method of "locking" your door, i. During the day, substitute it for the regular lock. It can also be used as a "lock" for the bathroom. "br>br>In order for the hinge part to fit/seat properly, I had to mortise (cut out) a space. I used a utility knife and a wood chisel, but if you were careful, you could probably get away with a sharp standard head screwdriver. Because the hinge only needs to sit in 1/16th of an inch, make sure you do it correctly. br>br>Two of these are included in the package, each of which requires four screws. br>br>Initially, the lock was stiff, but a little lube and some working it in loosen it up, and it's now smooth and easy to operate. It will also easily prevent toddlers from opening the door until they are tall enough to do so. br>br>Keep in mind that if no one is on the other side of the door who can open it, you won't be able to get in without completely destroying the door frame, if it's made of wood, or going through a window when this lock is activated. You'll need to find another way in if your door frame is made of metal. (It's unlikely that metal door frames are mortised. ) If this is the only way in, someone could lock you out, which would cause rescuers to take longer to arrive. It's a good product, but run some scenarios through your head with your family first. Blood pressure can be raised by a senile person or a naughty child.
