Is this something you can do with steel doors?

I haven't attempted to install on a steel door yet. I'm sure you could if you had the right hardware. They are, however, not a particularly heavy latch. They were used to keep squirrels out of my vegetable garden. You might need a more substantial latch depending on the weight of your steel doors. I hope this information is useful.

It appears to be larger than 1. Is the exact length of 5 inches in video?

They aren't particularly large. I sold the house where I had them installed, but the 1. 5" seems to be a good size for a base.

It's appealing to the eye and performs admirably

These were used to secure a decorative wood rack in front of a window on the inside. I wanted to be able to unlatch the rack and swing it open in the event of a fire. Other than that, the only time I'll need to unlatch these is to clean the windows. They're tough and I think they'll last a long time. They'll each have to hold 25 pounds, which I'm sure they'll be able to do with ease. The screws are fine if they aren't holding any weight, but they will for me, so I replaced the screws that came with these with longer ones so I could bite deeper into the wood frame. For one window, these will also serve as security deadbolts. While no solution is perfect, the wood frame will last longer than the latches. I only wish these were available in black because I had to paint them to match the rest of my hardware.

I looked for the smallest Stainless Steel Sliding Bolt Lock I could find at a reasonable price to secure my patio screen doors in the event of strong winds that could pop open the door and leave it flapping in the breeze.
