I wasn't sure about the product and was looking for something that would last a long time. These were purchased as a test and lead to a balcony on the second story of a hilltop home. Strong winds are common in our area. I placed an order for a set to try out. They're fantastic. It's a breeze to put together and extremely durable. I'm going to order some more for the rest of my French doors.
It appears to be sturdy, but some of the design choices are unsatisfactory and make installation difficult. The bolt slides through two retaining lugs rather than a single one, as shown in the photos, but you can't remove it during installation because each lug has a tiny metal flat-head screw. spring that is held in place by the pressure of the bolt resting against it (so that the bolt does not rattle around when in use) - Remove the bolt as well as the flat-head screws. The springs have fallen out. This means you'll have to install it with the bolt in both lugs the entire time, making alignment a lot more difficult. br>br>Also, after sliding the bolt back and forth literally once, I now have an unsightly line of exposed metal, presumably caused by those flat-footed flat-footed flat-footed flat-footed flat-footed flat-footed flat-footed flat-footed flat-footed flat-footed flat-foote springs. So this isn't an "oil-free" situation. "Rubbed bronze" in the sense that you might imagine. I'm assuming it's just a can of spray paint.
The product is adaptable and can be set up in a variety of ways. br>Of all the latch locks, only this one fits and looks right on a Dutch door. br>br>An important point to keep in mind: Our front door has yet to be painted.
This bolt has a great appearance and is easy to install. However, a portion of the finish was scraped away when I slid the bolt in. I can't wait to see how it looks after a few weeks of consistent use. The tension spring's instructions are inadequate, and the spring itself is a tiny piece of thin, cheap metal that appears to be prone to breaking. It's also not secure, so it pops out when you pull the bolt back. The first time it fell out, we didn't notice it, and I nearly vacuumed it up. If you don't need the tension, I'm sure you could make it work without the spring, but the finish issue indicated that this product would need to be replaced sooner rather than later, so I returned it. At the very least, the return process went smoothly.
This is fine, and it works, but it wasn't the easiest to set up, and it's only good enough to operate my Dutch door. The clips that provide tension to keep the latch in place open or closed needed to be epoxied in place or they would fall out, so the design isn't perfect; however, when the latch is open, the latch pin tension is just enough to keep the pin in place. There are no instructions given.
Although it appears to be a good product, I had to exchange mine because the spring that holds the bolt in place when sliding it up and down was missing. I'll probably buy another once I've finished installing the first one.
For a dog door, it is used as an internal door. To make it work, I had to combine a 10" and a 4".
K is a product. This product complements our Dutch door nicely. It's also a very heavy, well-made product, but it's a pain to put together. There were no instructions included with the package. It could've also been better designed. When I try to open my Dutch door, the pin simply rises and the springs fall out. It's inconvenient, so we made a stopper to place above the pin to prevent it from pulling all the way out.
