Questions & Answers

What is the keeper's maximum diameter (diameter)? diameter of a latch that this keeper could be used on)?

It's about half an inch, I believe.

What's the best way to get this up and running? There are no instructions included, and only four screws are included! What kind of screw should I use?

The large section should go on the post, while the small section should go on the gate or door. Place the screws in the open holes after you've aligned the two pieces. In the small piece, there are two screws, and in the large piece, there are two screws.

What is the length of the protruding part of the bolt when it is moved completely to the left or right?

It is exactly 2 inches in length.

Is it possible to use this to secure the top of a slightly warped shed door to the upper frame in a vertical manner? Thanks. ?

This would most likely work, but the larger part should be attached to the top so gravity can keep it closed.

There aren't enough bolts or the right hardware to connect everything together
3/5

This latch has a total of 6 holes. keeper (4 square holes for carriage bolts in the latch, 2 round holes, apparently for screws in the Keeper) but only two carriage bolts and two screws were included in the package. Screws should not be used for the keeper because the locking latch can be easily defeated by simply removing two screws that are not protected in any way. Carriage bolts should be used to secure the Keeper - which cannot be removed unless the nuts on the inside of the gate/door are accessed - However, carriage bolts will not fit through the holes in the keeper because they are round. Carriage bolts can be inserted into the square holes in the latch. Depending on the position of the sliding latch bolt, two of the holes are protected from tampering at any time. However, why are there only two carriage bolts and four holes? There should have been six square holes and six carriage bolts in the ideal situation. This isn't a difficult problem to solve.

The product was disappointing; according to the specifications, it should have been a ten
3/5

The length is approximately 5 inches. When I got this, I had no idea what had happened. It isn't even six o'clock yet. The length is approximately 5 inches. The product was disappointing.

There are no instructions for installation, and the carriage bolt interferes with the locking mechanism
3/5

Aside from a confusing diagram on the back of the package, there are no instructions. I'm not a pro at DIY, but this shouldn't be so difficult. I figured out how to put it together and drilled the holes and hammered in the carriage bolts (note to all - this took a long time). The carriage bolt's head must face the would-be intruder on the outside of the fence. If you're a thief, your latch is on the inside of the door. The nut can be hand-screwed onto the carriage bolt, but using anything other than pliers to tighten it is difficult. Okay, I got it tightened and secured (ignoring the fact that the pliers scratched up the black bolts/screws/latch, I just colored it in with a sharpie). Then I had to slide the latch to the lock position, which I couldn't do because the carriage bolt's bottom was sticking out too far and interfering with where the latch needed to slide. I tried to push the bolt back a little to clear the latch, but it didn't help much. This product is not at all something I would recommend.

The latch is quite strong
5/5

Because carriage bolts are tamper-resistant, I used these latches on shed doors. br>Despite the fact that the receiver is punched for 1/4" carriage bolts, seating the square shank of the bolt required a large hammer; if I had used the supplied screws, anyone with a Phillips screwdriver could remove the receiver and defeat the latch.

The wrong fasteners were used, and the instructions were inadequate
3/5

On the outswinging double shed doors, I installed a latch. Because the main body and latch bolt cover are well-made, I gave it two stars rather than one. The latch bolt cover, on the other hand, is supplied with simple phillips head wood screws, despite the fact that the square holes in the cover are clearly intended for carriage bolts like the ones supplied for the main latch body. Because they are easily removed, the exposed phillips head screws negate any locking security. It would be far more secure to use carriage bolts with the nut on the inside. The main latch body should be set back 1" from the door edge, while the latch bolt cover should be set back 1/2". If the gap between the two edges is more than 1/4", this results in a VERY short latch bolt engagement into the cover, and no engagement at all. To ensure proper latch bolt engagement, the setback should be 1/2" on the main latch body and 1/4" on the latch bolt cover.

The pictures deceive you
3/5

I expected it to be more durable than it is. On the left side of a metal two-car garage swing-up door, I wanted to add one. The one on there is at least twice as thick as the bolt's securing tabs and the padlock's securing tabs. I didn't put it in. The padlock could be easily twisted and the tab through which the lock fits broken. Slowing someone down could be preferable to doing nothing. I'll need to come up with a better solution.

This is a high-quality product that is extremely well-made and finished
5/5

It comes with some nice mounting hardware. The only drawback (and it's a minor one) is the size of the keeper into which the bolt slides. enables the gate on which it was installed to sway slightly in the wind. The slightly oversized keeper, on the other hand, provides some wiggle room for aligning the keeper with the bolt throw during installation. There's nothing to be concerned about. Definitely suggest! br>br>.

The Bolt Receiver has been erroneously identified
3/5

Sized. The slide bolt's receiver is designed to fit a larger latch. In some installations, this may not be an issue, but in ours, the extra wiggle room prevents a secure latch. (Of course, I didn't realize until we'd finished installing it, so I'm assuming I won't be able to return. ) Aside from that, the quality is adequate for the price, but not exceptional.
