The screws strip as if they were made of genuine soft silver! We didn't put the screws in correctly the first time, and the stupid thing was stripped just by putting them in. We're still trying to pry it out of the door frame so that we can replace it with a new screw. We can't just leave it in because it didn't go all the way in and is now sticking out, preventing us from putting the chain in. The poor quality of the hardware in this kit has me extremely frustrated. br>br>I would also advise against using this set on a door with windows. We'll also have to replace two of the screws with shorter ones we made ourselves because they're too long and could crack the glass inside the wood. br>br>This was not the straightforward installation I had hoped for. The fact that the screws strip so easily is my biggest gripe. I'm not sure what metal they're made of, but they're terrible, and I wouldn't recommend this product unless you already have better-quality screws. br>br>Recent changes: br>br> We still haven't gotten the screw out of our door frame, and trying to unscrew it with pliers resulted in the head snapping off. I'm only giving this one star because it's been such an unbelievable disaster. DO NOT BUY THIS UNLESS YOU PLAN ON GETTING BETTER INSTALLATION HARDWARE!.

When you leave your apartment for the day, you usually don't have the option of using a chain for added security, especially if you live in a building where your key is kept on file. This is a great solution because it allows you to lock and unlock the chain from the outside; it's also very sturdy, and I had a worker install it with larger and better screws. You can do it yourself, but I recommend using the largest screws possible for the type of molding you have. Before you install it, make sure you measure the height you want it to be, as well as the clearance and distance between the chain and the lock. It's very clever that the catch has a place to go if you're inside but not using it. You can use it from the inside by locking it and latching and unlatching it with the other side of the chain. This is a great idea.

This was primarily purchased for the purpose of entertaining children. As a result of my 2-year-old's proclivity for unlocking deadbolts and opening doors, I'm proofing. My wife and I wanted something to keep the door closed so that neither of us had to go to the door to let the other in every time one of us left. We were in desperate need of a chain lock, and this one fit the bill perfectly. This thing is tough, heavy, and made of solid metal. This is, in my opinion, the best chain lock available. Drilling holes into the metal sheathing on the door was the most difficult part of the installation, which took 5 minutes. br>br>The keyhole is located at the top of the lock and operates by inserting your hand through the space in the door, (approximately 3-inch gap). 4 inch gap), and putting the small padlock key in there. Because the lock is so close to the wall, it's a little tricky. The heavy chain drops out the bottom of the lock and rests against the inside of the door once it is unlocked, allowing gravity to do the rest. br>br>This comes with two padlock keys, and while I haven't had any problems with them, the cut doesn't appear to be perfect. To get the key into the lock, I have to work it a fraction of a second longer than I should. Still, there aren't any major issues, but I'd prefer a smoother cut key. I'm not sure I'd be able to duplicate these in such a way that they'd work in the lock. Overall, I like the weight and security of this door chain, as well as the convenience of not having to be let in.

Pre- Installation screws have been drilled. When drilling in the screw heads, they broke. We used some "not cheap" screws after fighting to get them out, and the product worked fine; however, they should use a higher quality screw with this product, especially since these screws are supposed to prevent forced entry.

The quality is poor! Normal use has caused the chain to bend at the latch. After the two-year-old discovered how to open doors, we put this up to keep him safe. It's been up for about two months and I can tell it's not going to last long. It has a nice finish and design, but I'm counting down the days until it falls apart.

I had suspicions that someone was breaking into a vacant property I owned (with teenagers) and received this. After that, I felt a lot better. I never saw the signs that I had seen inside the house before. I'd already bought two of them. I recently bought another for the same reason. You'll be fine once you've gotten used to reaching inside to open the door.

I'm hoping it lasts and doesn't rust. It works great and looks great, but there was one minor issue: a long screw for the key lock pc snapped during installation! After I got the lock pc all the way screwed in, the head of a long screw that holds it to the door frame snapped off, and I couldn't even grab it with pliers. Because I didn't have an extractor, I had to drill new holes and move the lock pc down the frame using my own metal wood screws.

We've been worried about when she'll be able to unlock the front door on her own since we discovered she can unlock it. This lock was the key to unlocking the door. You can lock and unlock it from both inside and outside, ensuring that as parents, we are able to return to our home after locking it with this chain. It comes highly recommended.
