Questions & Answers

Is it possible to replace the black Rubber part with a thicker one?

I'm not sure about removing the pad and replacing it with a thicker one, but I can say that we used industrial glue to secure a thin piece of rubber against one of the doors.

Is it possible to get spacers for these locks?

There are no spacers in this picture.

Is it possible to open it from the outside in the event of an emergency?

It isn't able to withstand a brusque entrance. Also, my 5-year-old can unlock it from inside; I just moved it to the top of the door, out of reach of her.

Is it possible to install this in the top door jam? For use with a double-door system. ?

Because it is effective when mounted 6 inches above your deadbolt, I wouldn't recommend it.

Even better when modified
4/5

The AmazonBasics Door Reinforcement (ADR) is a well-made, eye-catching device that secures the door against intrusion by using 3" steel screws. Older people, such as my 77-year-old wife, would not be able to open it, as others have already stated. So I drilled and tapped an 8/32 thread, added an eye screw, a ring, and a wood dowel handle to it. She is now able to easily open the door.
2. The ADR comes with an installation manual, but no instructions on how to use it. I couldn't figure out how to open it, as did a few other people. I finally figured out that it was spring-loaded and needed to be pulled outward; Amazon, please include this in the instructions.

For the top and bottom of the house, purchase 3 inch screws
4/5

The included items will not provide you with enough security to support your weight of 800 pounds. This item isn't a true polished brass color because it doesn't match any of our hardware, but it does the job and doesn't look bad. Every similar product I've seen online comes with 2) 3" screws and 2) 1" screws, which is why I didn't give it a 5-star rating. All of the screws are 1 inch long on this one. The issue with 1 inch screws is that you are essentially screwing into your door trim, which means the entire door could be kicked in. Without the 3 inch screws that go into the door frame, there's no way I'd trust this device. To match the hardware, I needed to go out and buy some 3 inch screws. Now that I've installed two of those and two of the included, it's very secure, and I trust this device, so the issue isn't with the product itself, but with the included hardware, which can be easily fixed with a trip to the hardware store. Keep in mind that the 3 inch screws are required for the full 800 pounds of force resistance. Overall, I'm satisfied with the product, and I'm confident in using it to install my screws.

This is ideal for renters
5/5

So I live in a rental, and our front door has never had a deadbolt. My wife became aware of the situation and demanded that something be done about it. I looked on Amazon and quickly discovered that this device solved all of my problems and was very affordable; the design of this lock is rugged and robust, and it is always incredibly simple to operate and install. As a hobby, I lockpick, and I'm terrified of being able to pick any lock. It's a lot less difficult than you might believe. My favorite feature of this reinforcement lock's design is that it can't be opened with a lock pick set or a slide card; the only way to open it is with blunt, destructive force. I would strongly suggest it. I used a Phillips head bit on a bit driver to install it in under 5 minutes. Because I am so confident in this lock's ability, I am seriously considering purchasing more for our doors, which already have two types of locks.

If I knew, I wouldn't buy

The concept is fantastic, but the execution could be better. br>It appears that the "engineer" did not even touch them, and they were sent to production without being tested. I had to cut the sharp corners off because it was painful to open. I had to glue the black rubber because it was always falling down. Do the right thing, Amazon! br>br>Amazon, do the right thing!.

Easy to understand and use! I needed more security for my side garage door, but I couldn't because of the trim around it
5/5

I came across this product on the internet and decided to give it a try. It appears to be well-made and sturdy. br> Here are some pointers for those who are unsure about the installation. Screw the smaller screw into the sliding slot with the latch in the open position, but not too tightly. Close the door and secure the latch before proceeding with the remaining screws. Open the door, tighten the smaller screw, and mark the location of the other three holes on the door jamb once you've got it in place. To pre-drill, use a 1/8" drill bit. For the longer screws, drill pilot holes. If you don't, your wood frame may split. Check your position again after closing the door. You don't want to start screwing in those long screws only to discover they're not in the right place. Apply a bar of bath soap to the threads of the long screws. This will make it easier to put the screws in. Because the screws are so long, it's easy to strip the heads, rendering them useless. You can't open the door from the outside with this door stop installed, so it's a lot more secure, in my opinion. This is a product that I would strongly recommend.

On the "brushed" style, use longer screws because the edges are very sharp
3/5

Overall, it's about what I expected; however, it's not quite as nice as the other one I bought. I did a quick search and came across these. They were a little less expensive, but I wasn't impressed with the finish because it wasn't really brushed, but rather had deep scratches, and the plate that secured the door seemed a little less refined than the one I replaced. br>br>It's an adequate product; however, if you want a little more security, it's a worthwhile upgrade. br>br>The screws that came with it were useless, so I replaced them with three new ones. So I could grab a stud, I used 5 inch screws. I recommend doing this with the hinges, as well as the deadbolt and door latch anchors.

It provides an additional layer of protection. Especially if you rent and have other people's keys to your house.

The grip is good, but the screws aren't up to the task
4/5

After someone began kicking on doors in my neighborhood at random, I decided to purchase these. There are a lot of product brands, and I figured that because it was from Amazon, it couldn't be that bad. It turned out to be a huge success, much to my surprise. Advantages: br>br>
1. I felt very strong and tried to push the door open, but with this in the lock position and no door lock, I couldn't even lean against the door. br>2. The exterior is still quite shiny after a few monthsbr>3. There was no need to cut a notch in the door frame because the leaf is thin enough. br>4. Cons: The rubber on the bottom keeps it from being damaged. br>br>Cons:
1. I purchased a bunch of 3-inch screws to replace the ones that came with the kit. I used inch deck screws instead of the included screws, and it felt much more solid. br>br>Overall, I'm very happy with the purchase; now I can sleep better at night knowing my front door is secure; all I have to do now is secure the rest of my doors and windows.
