Questions & Answers

What's the difference between a strike plate and a latch restorer?

A steel sub-system is included in the GDLR. plate with an adjustable tab that allows the user to adjust the door's tension if desired The original GSP's effectiveness has been preserved.

What exactly are the aperture dimensions?

Because I'm a contractor who installed this in a client's door, I can't tell you the exact dimensions, but the mounting screws are standard distance apart, and the throat almost reaches the top and bottom screws. The width appears to be a little wider as well. Great solution for a door that had settled slightly and the latch was no longer perfectly aligned.

What does this do? I'm not sure. I need to lean against something to latch a deadbolt. Was planning on filing the plate, but will this suffice?

Probably not, unless it's altered. It's just a two-part latch with a bendable tab that functions similarly to the ones found in big box stores. You might be able to make this work by filing the inner plate's holes into slots to allow it to slide, but you're probably better off just moving your existing one out a little. To find out everything you need to know, look at the fourth picture from the left. Except for the fact that it's two pieces and significantly more expensive, it's very similar to what you probably already have or can get for a lower price at a big box store.

There is no lip on my deadbolt strike plate. Is it possible for me to use only part B?

Thank you very much for your query. Part B isn't made for deadbolts and won't work with most of them.

A quick fix for door latch plates that haven't been properly installed
5/5

I had to fix a builder's lack of attention to detail, which resulted in poor door edge gaps and weatherstripping. This was a good solution because the original striker plates had been altered and screwed down haphazardly by the workers involved. The plates are screwed into place, and then the tab is bent outward a little at a time until the door closes properly. The included screws are a little thicker than standard screws, so they'll grip a little better in worn-out holes from previous attempts. I had to use longer screws on one particularly bad door where the wood had been abused to the point where normal screws couldn't grip it, but that isn't the fault of this kit; rather, it is a data point for anyone with the same issue.

I purchased a 4-pack of 4-packs of 4-packs of 4-packs of 4-packs of 4-packs of 4-packs of 4-packs of I need to pack because at least three of my doors aren't latching or closing tightly enough against the door frame, requiring me to push in on the door to get the deadbolt to latch
5/5

I came back here to sing its praises after installing only two. In less than 10 minutes of work, I was able to solve two problems with nothing more than a screwdriver. Even if the next two don't work, I'd still give it a five-star rating. This is the epitome of American ingenuity, according to the website, which claims that the product was designed by a US Naval Engineer. Sir, please accept my heartfelt congratulations. I wish you great wealth as a result of this.

I found it to be extremely useful
5/5

Even after replacing the hinge screws, the installed hardware on two doors prevented the doors from latching fully. I looked for a solution because the amount that those doors were off was only a small amount. I was a little skeptical when I first opened the package containing these door latch replacements because they didn't appear to be significantly larger - The screw holes essentially line up with the standard size, as noted in other reviews, but I was pleasantly surprised when I installed the first one. Because the opening on these is large enough, the door latches easily and without the need to cut or drill anything. Obviously, if you have a significant misalignment, you should first look at your framing and other adjustments, as this product only adds a small amount of "wiggle room" for a door that is only a few millimeters away from latching; However, this is a fantastic product in those circumstances.

The strike plate problem will be resolved - It's worth noting that for a flush fit, the two-piece construction may necessitate mortising
4/5

This is going to fix your problem. Although there is a problem with the alignment of the door latch, there are a few things to keep in mind when buying one. The first is that the strike plate is made up of two pieces. This, I believe, is to allow for universal installation, as LH and RH aren't a concern. However, I discovered that the two-piece design necessitated mortise work on the smaller bottom piece in order to achieve a flush fit. The second point to keep in mind is that the corners are rounded. The strike plates I was replacing were not, and there was a gap between the top and bottom of the strike plates. Depending on your level of perfection, you may need to fill the gap with filler and repaint, or you may choose to ignore it and be grateful that your door is latching again. br>br>In order to avoid mortising and filling, I used my rotary tool to remove some material from the original plate for slight offsets. I prefer the GATOR door latch restorer for more substantial offsets.

Adjusting the door is a lot more difficult! In my neighborhood, foundation shifts cause a lot of door issues
5/5

These were perfect for all of the doors where the latch didn't line up vertically. I simply installed this over the old strike plate for a little more thickness on one door where the latch was too far away from the doorframe due to a gap that had developed, and it solved the problem as well. With just a screwdriver, you can easily install it! It did expose some exposed wood in the hole that the old latch plate covered, but I can cover that up next time I paint. br>br>I have told all of my neighbors about this product!.

It really works
5/5

I don't usually write reviews, but we recently had damage to our home, and during the repairs, we discovered that several of our doors don't close properly, with the latch falling low, which I understand is common after many years. We were planning on fixing the problem the old-fashioned way, by removing the strike plate, filling the old screw holes, drilling new ones, and chiseling out the wood, until we came across this double strike plate and decided to give it a shot. With the two parts, we simply screwed it into the old location, and with the back plate, the latch closed normally once more without the need for anything else. It's a very ingenious design! We bought a few extras to cover extra doors and for a few members of our family. If your doors have become rusted and no longer function properly, this is an excellent solution. Simply unscrew the old one and replace with this one to solve the problem.

Awesome! Thank u! Thank you very much! I'm grateful for this product because, among other things, I needed to replace the door hardware at my new place, and two of the doors wouldn't close
5/5

I'm a woman, and I don't like to work on my core. So I was about to go to Home Depot to get longer screws and a metal file when I came across this product!! What a genius you are! That's one less thing I'll have to fix in a day.

It is a headache reliever! In my basement, a couple of doors haven't shut properly in years (cheap doors + damp basement = warping)
5/5

) I could either replace the entire door or experiment with these strike plates. These are fantastic! br>br> br>br>With a little Dremel work to open up the hole a bit and these new plates, the door now works as it should. I might change the doors in the future, but for now, these are perfect!.
