Questions & Answers

When it comes to the height drop, how much is the maximum ?

Depending on where the guides are mounted, the results will vary. As the bottom rail of my fence is 12" above the ground, I mounted both guides (approximately 4 inches apart) right where the bottom of my gate is and that leaves 4 inches for the rod to penetrate The gate will be able to hold in place due to the ample room available. I hope you found that useful.

What is the adjustment range of the mounts?

You can adjust the mounts if you want

Is it possible to use it on a heavy iron gate?

It consists of a chain of links Even a link gate could be fairly heavy, whereas a wrought iron gate could weigh hundreds of pounds or more. In the former case, the CaneBolt could be appropriate, whilst in the latter case it is ineffective. A gate's design also makes a difference For the design of a solid device, windage must be considered.

When it comes to screw holes, how far apart are they?

Attaching a 2x4 is very easy thanks to the very well-placed screw holes on the top or bottom plate about one inch apart.

That's a nice cane bolt
5/5

You did a great job, sir! It is nice that this version comes with the hook to let you hang the cane bolt when it's I went to a big box store and got the SAME version but realized it was a 5/8" which is not only overkill for my little 4x4 gates that I am making, but is heavier as well. I found this on Amazon because it is the exact same version of the bigger brother based on hardware, finish, and quality, but it is not as heavy, which is why I prefer it. My gates will be installed this weekend so I'll post updated pictures once I get them installed! A section of 90" fence and two double gates essentially (*EDIT you take a section of 90" fence and double gate it) Thanks to these cane bolts, I was able to build my double gates over the weekend. You can view the attached photos. There is nothing to worry about. The cane bolts can go in the 1/2" galvanized pipe that I pounded into the ground so they may fit in the ground. The foundations of this organization are very In a few months, I'll post an update to see how the finish of the product holds up from being outside and in the sun all day long.

This is a nice latch
4/5

It was yesterday that I installed two of them. I am very happy with their performance so far. As you can see, the instructions say a specific distance between them and how to install them, but this is how I ended up doing it. a) Line up the latch with the correct position and hold the gate in that position. 3) Drive a 12" piece of 1/2" pipe into the ground there you marked to engage the latch. 4) Move the gate out of the way and mark the ground again. As a matter of fact, I used an old piece of copper water pipe I had lying It is helpful to crush the end of the pipe so that it becomes sharp before driving it into the ground so that it pushes dirt out of the way rather than filling it 4) Engage the lock in the ground pipe by opening the gate again. The brackets should be held in place loosely with this technique. 5) Adjust the brackets so that the latch engages fully and opens far enough to clear the opening. • 6) Fix the brackets to the wall. Among the two I installed yesterday, one was bare steel and the other was black (the one you bought from that There is a tendency for the black coating to scratch very easily and I do not anticipate it lasting for too long. The latch is, however, great aside from that.

It is easy to install on a large privacy fence gate and is sturdy
5/5

My parents installed two of them for their 6' tall wood privacy fence, one on each side of a heavy 10 ft double gate. They are very easy to install and work very well. The following notes should be noted There were a couple of changes I needed to make to the package instructions. Due to the gate supports, I had to adjust the bracket placement on my fence. It said the lowest support should be 3' feet from the gate bottom, but we had to make do with 4' feet. We definitely had to lower the middle support by 1" otherwise we wouldn't have had enough drop to ensure that both the top and bottom of the rod would be supported in Also, when installing the top hardware of the first rod, I put it on a pennies' worth off from level (which was my fault), thus making the rod rub and hindering its descent. The screw placement was corrected and I checked the rod had freedom of movement when installing the second one. The simplest approach was to simply mark a straight line down the center of the post. I used a level to mark the cross-sections. As a result of the lines, I was able to align the brackets quickly, preventing the error I made on the first go-round. You may want to check to make sure the drop rod stays in both lower supports when you set the height of the top bracket so the rod stays in alignment. Here is a picture from before the receiving pipe is added to the ground for the drop rod in the down position [before adding the receiving pipe].

The hardware is solid, and the components are of high quality
5/5

It is relatively easy to install the parts, and the parts are of good quality. The coated parts protect them from The plan is to use this bolt to keep my shed open by letting it fall on my lawn, however if that doesn't work, I may have to install a pipe in the ground as the instructions suggest (note that the pipe is not included with the product). Not yet installed - I don't know if it works from here - After I have some experience with it and have a chance to shoot some pictures, I will give an update. I just templated it and I have to drill a notch in my door so the bolt will clear (probably just specific to my application).

This is a simple, basic system that works well
5/5

My family and I just moved into a new house with a garage for our RV. It consists of two sides, one with an anchor to hold one in place, and the other with a latch to secure the other. In an exceptionally strong wind event a few weeks ago, we blew part of the gate open as a result of wind speeds of 25+ mph. In less than a week, this happened twice. This is the item I decided to purchase to anchor down the other half. I already had a masonry drill bit, so I did not have to purchase one. Affixed everything in place by aligning it and screwing it. We have not seen the gate blow open since then.

If you want to lock your vehicle gate, don't even look at latch and hook locks
5/5

The dual 6-channel setup I purchased is described below Several years ago, I purchased a foot gate system from the lumber yard from which I purchased my cedar fence boards. The latch and hook mechanism secured the gate. Anyone with a gate that is 12 feet long knows that a latch and hook lock will break pretty easily in just a few gusts of wind.

Do yourself a favor and procure this cane bolt to secure your gate. For some reason, I reinforced the back of my gate with a 2x4 where the connections are just to be sure it won't fall apart, but perhaps they weren't even I hardly even heard my gate move during a gust of 60mph+ winds just a few moments ago.

It is possible to get stronger cane bolts
3/5

When the first big wind storm blew, the bolt twisted with such force that I left my gates swinging in the wind. I bought this because I thought it would be strong enough for my application, but it bent over right away. This bolt is way stronger than the 5/8" one I found The alloy is thicker and stronger in addition to being thicker. You may want to choose Everbilt 5/8" if you live in an area that gets a lot of wind.

Thank you so much for your service - I am very pleased with my purchase A recommended translation
5/5

We find it to be sturdy, well-made, and perfect for our purposes. There is all the required hardware included, screws, brackets, and easy to follow instructions, even though with this type of hardware, it should be one of those that is easily installed by oneself. The instructions are self-explanatory and only a two year old would need them. As a result, we measured the location where we wanted to install the drop down bolt, drilled the holes for the screws, applied some WD-40, and installed the drop down bolt. There were 40 screws in total, so it was easy to stick them in and the bolts would go right in. It is a good, solid product, it ships fast, it's easy to install, and we are very happy with our purchase, but of course it's impossible to go wrong with Stanley Hardware and Amazon materials.
