I found these to be very helpful and they did just what I needed. New oil rubbed bronze hinges were installed to replace old brass ones from the 1970's. It didn't matter that the buttons were exactly the same size as the old hinges Since my mortises were slightly larger than 1/4" radius corners) and fitted in the mortises on the door and door frame perfectly, my doors are not closing Whenever I tried to close one, it would be a little hesitant to stay closed. When I finally realized that my old hinges (1/8") were thicker than my new ones (3/32"), I was surprised. The thin metal used on new hinges is becoming more common. My only need was to put one of these hinge shims only under the side of the hinge that was facing the door jam and "viola! I was able to solve the problem. I even did this for a door that had a "rubbing at the top" problem while closing, and it did not occur again after I applied one shim on the bottom hinge! It's critical to use these to fix your door fit problems, especially if you're working with an old house and outdated I painted it, updated the knobs, and installed new the doors work perfectly!.
I was unsure whether I would feel comfortable utilizing traditional shims, but these have given me peace of mind. Although I suggest you do 1 at a time, it would be tedious, but I went off the charts and added 3 It is easier to install them than to remove them. Each of the 3 molded pieces snaps apart just by snapping. Be careful since they are brittle and may break if not handled carefully. Having said that, they can easily be trimmed down if needed. Shaking door latches was made easier with scraps. It would have been great if I could have gotten this size in a darker color to match hinges but are hard enough to see that no one should notice that they're there.
(but who needs that? Using this product is so cool, and you can use it to square a door really easily. That's why I give it five stars. What I want to know is who needs 36 of them? Among the doors I had to repair were The solution came from one of these. In conclusion, I ended up fixing one more door while walking around my house looking for other doors to fix. Now I have 34 of these and I will hardly ever use them unless there is some major shifting going on in my house. However, I put them in a draw just to be safe. The items will be sold for 25 cents at a garage sale when we move and/or sell the house. I don't know what to think about this. For that, I would give it one star.
I would like it if they made a flat disc about 1/32 of an inch thick. Although the screws are designed so that you do not need to remove all of them, I do like that it is. They were great and easy to use for doors that looked good with just one shim.
This product worked well in leveling my door. The top of the door was tight, and at the bottom I was seeing light. I installed two in the lower hinge, and one in the middle hinge, and the problem was fixed. The only thing that was required was to loosen the screws and slide a wedge in to tighten them back up.
It wasn't until I found these that I realized their potential Making my own shims from brass shimming material was not too complicated. As you attach the hinges to the door frame, these have holes for the screws to go through. The slots/holes help hold the screws in place. The length of the shims can be adjusted by adjusting the length, sliding them in or out. In comparison with brass shimming, they were much easier to modify to suit what was required.
Even though the new door was listed as the same width, it was 1/8" narrower after installation, leading to a larger gap on the non-hinged side. These hinge shims have completed the job of filling each gap around the door by fitting behind all 3 hinges. I was extremely happy with their performance.
This was an excellent tool for my needs. There is a possibility of using cardboard, but that would likely attract moisture and may There was not much money to work with, but it was a good job.
