It is possible to remove the pins. Placing a nail or small screwdriver on the bottom of the pin will do the trick. You can remove the pin by tapping the nail or screwdriver with a hammer.

While I am not familiar with hinges, these are solid and seem to have some weight to them, but they are only for interior doors. I bought these because they match the ORB door knobs and strike plates that I have on all my doors and they are sturdy and even though they are black, they go well with them. The prefabricated hinges I used on the doors feel a lot heavier than the builder hinges I removed. We are replacing all my brass hardware with ORB hardware and are in the process of changing out all the brass hardware. The doors look so much better now, what an impressive improvement. My screw driver would run across the hinge plate while I was installing these hinges and not once did the finish scratch.
It is important to note that this occurred while installing the hinges. The screw driver was under a great deal of pressure as well. It is clear to me that they are not painted, so that is fantastic. These hinges are no doubt of high quality and very solid for such a low price. The decision I made was the right one for me.
