Questions & Answers

Do you know how many shims each package contains?

The number 15 is fifteen

On which side of the door hinge should these screws go? On the jamb hinge side or on the side between the door and the hinge? How do you remove the hinge from the door? Or do you remove the jamb from the inside?

A hinge and a It is not necessary to take the hinge off if you have the right size. I just loosened up and put in the jamb side. It worked like a charm.

What ability does a shim have to align doors so air gaps are reduced?

As far as I'm concerned, it was successful. As a temporary measure, I shifted my door over by using three shims at each hinge. On the other hand, if your door is warped or twisted, it won't be able to help you at all.

There is an apparent offset between the two center door jam screw holes, but the shim holes don't appear to Do you think that is a problem? The hinges I have are 4" long with 4 screws. How should I mount them?

Additionally, I used them with four screws on a 4" hinge, and the holes lined up perfectly. Do you know if you can reverse

I love the way this filled in the gap in my door and it was super easy to install! As I noticed the light coming through the bottom left side of the door, I was stunned
5/5

The weather outside has been extremely cold, and I was wondering why my electric fireplace was not heating up as well as it should. I put my hand down on the door and you could feel icy air fill the room right away! Using Google, I researched how to fix something similar to this, found these items on Amazon, and had them in just a few There was nothing difficult about the door's installation. Taking a seat on my front stoop, I swung the door open as wide as it would go and removed the screws on the side of the hinge that is attached Then I closed the door to check it, slid in one of the shims, put two of the screws back in, and refitted them all. Despite these efforts, there still remained A lot smaller than the previous one I replaced the shim with a second one. We're at the end of the line now! When the door is locked, the bolts are aligned better with the doorframe, so the door doesn't sway. What a great product! It does exactly what it's supposed to do, is extremely easy to install, and is extremely affordable! Additionally, they are plastic so they aren't going to compress or deteriorate like the cardboard shims you can make at home. It looks like I have THIRTEEN more shims left over. Friends were notified via Facebook to see if they could make use of these. (The pictures are before, after, and a shot of the hinge so you can see what it looks like after the shims are installed. ).

The Shims are great and easy to install
5/5

One of our doors was missing hinges (wife wanted bronze instead of brushed nickel), so I replaced them, but found that there was a 1/4" gap on the latch side, while there was none on the hinge side. This created an air gap, which prevented the door from closing completely. These shims proved to be a great solution, since they are 1/16" thick and I inserted two of them under each hinge attached to the frame to shift the door to the latch side by I forgot to take a before photo, but there is now an even 1/8" gap on both sides as seen in the picture below (I meant to do so, but I forgot. There is also the option of using cardboard, but it can be difficult to predict how much of a shift the cardboard shim will allow the door to be shifted by. It may not last as long, and they may not hold up as well. These are much better and have an easy-to-install shape Loosen up the hinge hardware, and slide the shim in (if necessary, use something really thin like a razor or another shim to insert it to the required depth). After that, rephrase Now that you've tightened the hardware, everything will be fine! Make sure you use screws that are long enough in the places where you intend to install the Make sure you drill into the wood as well to prevent splitting). Compared to the old design, the new one will be much stronger and harder to kick in- You're welcome to join us, too.

You have done a great job! I have been using cardboard for shims for years, and I have seen mixed results over time (cardboard compresses with After my front door refused to lock for a second time, I had to buy these shims
5/5

As the dead bolt struck the door frame below the bore, it caused a loud noise. As a result, I removed the cardboard shims and replaced them with two of the EZ-Pins The Shims. It is now possible to lock the door EZ is not visible to me It is the cardboard that compresses, not the shimmies. EZ-Grips need to be fitted with a lot of precision Two hinge corners need to be trimmed for hinges with rounded corners. Shims in hinge mortises for hinges with rounded corners. With a pair of scissors, you can easily do that.

My intended purpose was not served by the gap size
3/5

I had to choose a door with a gap of about 3/8 inch at the bottom because it wasn't plumb. 1) There would be a rocker effect as the door opened and closed due to the existing screws being too short to secure the door, 2) the shims wouldn't match the hinge, and 3) the 3/8 inch shim at the hinge side would look Hence I will probably cut a tapered piece of wood to go on either side of the jamb. Although the hinge screws are already set into the jamb, shimming even 1/16th of an inch will prevent the existing screws from setting just The number of them is There are screws specifically designed for this purpose that measure 5/3 inches in diameter.

Make a lot of money and time by doing this
5/5

Installing this product was very easy. couldn't get the bolt to line up perfectly with the door jam "hole" so I used this to fix it! The installation is as easy as can be In order to remove the screws from the door, remove both the top and bottom screws The middle hinges on a four-inch hinge should be loosen and jammed (this is for a hinge that's four inches up). Check to see if it helps to put the screws back in and tighten the others. Despite needing one, you might have to do more than one depending on your situation. You should install the first one, try it, and then add another one if you need to, etc.

There is a helpful video on the manufacturer's website on how to install it, but the directions above should cover it pretty well.

The door's now working, it wasn't before it was installed by professionals
5/5

My front door stuck as soon as I moved into a new house, and I had to lock it in order for it to stay shut. The installation was done by what are laughingly referred to as To support the bottom hinge, I placed two shims, a third shim behind the next hinge up, but none behind either top hinge. A simple turn of the key allowed the door to be opened and latched It's too bad that amateurs don't know how to hang doors, but at least shims are available to homeowners so that their shoddy work may be fixed.

Installed in a few minutes
5/5

It meets the needs of its intended use. I would recommend it. It's just a simple piece of plastic, but it works well and can be easily installed. I was able to easily cut this with scissors and it was flexible, so I placed it between the hinges in a tight space. The following tips have been updated These things started to compress a little after a few weeks because the door weighed so much. As a general rule, I'd recommend adding an extra shim in the regions that need it and expecting that the shim will compress about 1 mm A total of five shimmings. Instead of attempting to fill the gaps on the other side of the door with various types of insulation, which was not effective, I should have used this product years ago. As a result, the door is now shifted over to the right and the seals on both parties are great. A product winner has been announced.
