Questions & Answers

Will this work if I need a key for a Chris Madden clock (d0183 k)?

Our clock keys were designed to be universal, so they should work with almost any clock that has a key.

Please tell me the diameter of the outer ring. Is the key too big for a 9mm slot? (Our timepiece is Regulator 31.) day pendulum with a swing of about 3. The shaft is 5mm square. ?

a quick response: The outside diameter of this set's two largest sizes (10, 11) exceeds 9mm only on the two largest sizes (10, 11). br>Long and detailed response: This is a difficult question to answer, but working with a 3 is a good starting point. I believe I can answer this with a 5 mm shaft. As far as I can tell, different standards exist for key numbers, and shafts can be recessed to the point where precise measurements are difficult, and many shafts are tapered, with the small end of the taper being the easiest to measure. According to what I've discovered on the internet, a 3 is appropriate. A 5 key is required for a shaft with a diameter of 5 mm. The outside diameter of the number five key in this set is. 6 or 253 in. 42 mm. The inside dimensions, on the other hand, are. 148 inches or three. 75 mm. As a result, the next smaller size, a number 4 key, has a similar outer diameter at. 252 or 6. 40 mm. There's something inside of my 4 that I'd like to share with you. 143 in. or 3. 63 mm. This is, once again, a little too big for a three. The next smaller size in this set is a 3 key, which has an outer diameter of and has a 5 shaft unless it's tapered. 5 or 234 in. 94 mm in length and a diameter of on the inside. 3 or 133 in. 37 mm. So, depending on the taper (if any), you'll need a 4 or 5 key, both of which have an outside diameter of about a quarter inch or six inches (in this set). 4 mm, which should fit easily into a 9 mm opening.

I'm looking for a key for a Seth Thomas mantel clock with a German movement that has the number 5606 on the face and two wind ups?

Our mantel clock is over 100 years old, and the key broke off two years ago. I was undecided about which "number" to choose. There are keys with even and odd numbers. I ordered both because I wasn't sure which one I wanted and they were both reasonably priced. Fortunately, there was one that would work.

I'm not sure which key I'll need. I have a Seth Thomas mantle clock that comes with a winding key. It's got a franz-like quality to it. 130-hermi ?

Our universal clock key fits nearly all winding clocks. Simply match the clock key's size to your clock's winding mechanism.

It really works
5/5

I was attempting to wind the clock on the left side of my photo. A Schatz. The number seven key was extremely useful. br>Both sets are sturdy, and I was concerned that the keys would not fit based on some of the reviews, so I attempted to cancel my order within 15 minutes, but the sellers are fast and had already completed the order process. br>They did respond and offered me the option of returning the set unopened, but thankfully it worked perfectly. br>I also used the set on a 1943 Chelsea 24 Hour Dial Engine Room Ships Clock, which worked just as well as the individual key I had. A number four key was taken. On the Chelsea deep, neither the original nor this set's key will fit into the housing, but they will on the Schatz. br>These will work fine for most people and are well constructed.

They're well-made, but their size may make it difficult to wind a clock with an opening face protector
5/5

These are well-made and well-fitting. I have a mantle clock and a wall clock with windings, and I planned to use this set for the mantle clock, which has two windings, one for the clock and the other for the chimes. Because the mantle clock's face cover opens at a 90-degree angle to the clock face, I can't fully rotate the winding key for the chime because it hits the face cover; however, the clock winding works fine on the side where the face cover opens. Anyone considering purchasing this set should keep this in mind. I believe I could modify the key by removing a small portion of the interfering prongs, but I'm going to use the key I already have for the wall clock and use this set for the wall clock, which has a larger face and a cover that opens 180 degrees. I still give it five stars because it's well-made and I'm confident I could modify the key I need.

This is an excellent set of keys for everyday use
4/5

This is a good set of keys that will suffice for the average homeowner or clock repairman. There are two points to be aware of: Because the keys are large enough, you can generate a lot of torque when winding the springs (which you shouldn't do anyway), don't wind them up too tight. Also, some older clocks have small arbors in small holes in the face that control the speed and silence the chimes. The diameter of these keys is too large to pass through the clock face and reach those small arbors. You should be fine if all you have to wind are standard time, gongs, and chime arbors. If you have access to a lathe, you could have a key barrel turned down to fit through the smaller holes. A 1920s New Haven mantel clock was the source of my problem. br>br>Keys are well-made, and our Indian friends have mastered the art of producing brass objects, so they'll last a long time.

It's okay for a collector or a horologist, but not for a daily key
4/5

This is a lovely set of winding stairs. Arbor keys are used to set the mainsprings of small clocks. As stated in the description, these are not intended for use in larger wall cased clocks (such as 31 day clocks) or grandfather clocks. If you're a clockmaker who makes house calls, like I do, or a collector or hobbyist who tinkers with clocks, they're a great set to keep in your go box. If you have a larger wall clock or grandfather clock, you'll need either a key with a longer shank or a key with a shorter shank. To compensate for the increased torque, the wings have been lengthened. A winding crank handle is usually required for Grandfather clocks. br>Also, these keys must be handled with caution. If your winding/setting arbor is set back from the clock's dial, these shanks will either not reach, or if they do and you fully seat them, the two adjacent shanks will scribe a circle around the arbor hole in the dial.

It is important to remember that size matters
5/5

What do you do with a collection of German antique clocks and an old French Baker's clock, each with a different set of keys that work sometimes and don't work at other times? You'll quickly learn that clock keys (like shoes) come in different sizes, and if you don't know what size you need, you're in for some discomfort. Shoes are another thing I like. This is where this item comes in handy. This key set was a perfect solution to a winding problem because you could use the right size among the 8 provided or find the right size to precisely get the exact right size.

The keys are too big to fit into the clock hole and cannot be returned! These keys appear to be of high quality and are quite sturdy
3/5

The issue is that, despite the fact that the key size would have fit the winding shaft of my clock, the outside diameter of the key is too large to fit into the clock's hole, rendering them useless. I'm very dissatisfied with the following: 1) it doesn't fit into my clock, despite being the correct shaft size, and 2) these keys are non-returnable! As a result, it was a $15 waste of money.

Shipped with absolutely the WRONG product

I was given a score of five. Shipped with absolutely the WRONG product. The five-pronged approach was given to me.

It's fantastic! I had a pendulum clock that I got at a thrift store, and it didn't come with a key, of course
5/5

When I went online, I discovered that there are so many different key sizes that I didn't know where to start. When I first saw this key set, I was a little put off by the price, but once they arrived, I realized they were well worth it. They are extremely durable and will not need to be replaced for a very long time. I was able to reactivate my clock, and the size 10 key worked flawlessly. Thank you very much!.
