Product Description

As an added measure of protection, the GFCI conducts an automatic internal test to confirm its ability to detect a ground fault on a regular basis
It detects and trips on actual ground fault even when a self-test is being performed, providing continuous ground fault protection
An indicator light informs you of the status of the power and protection, as well as if the line/load has reversed
The GFCI is protected against being reset by patented lockout action if the damage is permanent and the ground fault does not connect
Easy to install because of its shallow design, which reduces the depth

Questions & Answers

How long does it take for a GFCI to deteriorate?

Generally speaking, yes, they can go bad as they age or with regular The sensors in GFCI outlets contain passive electronic components (e. g. There can be problems with these, or in extreme cases, they can fail. Having said that, I have learned from tonight's 6-hour flight The year is The old Leviton 7599 can be found in the attic There is a W outlet in the building A component (often a ceramic capacitor Microphonics of ceramic capacitors) can be caused by voltage ripples and/or -When a "ringing" occurs, an audible harmonic is generated, which is evident to people with sensitive hearing. (Can you hear an old CRT television powered on when it is This is something you probably hear as well). experienced it with a single outlet, so I can only say it's annoying and makes you feel like a crazy Who made this noise?" where is it The lights are off on all of my electronic devices! How did the wall get there? In what way? I just thought I would mention this in case it comes up in the future.

When two devices, one in each socket, draw more than 15 amps on a circuit rated for 15 amps, will this trip?

A ground fault circuit interrupter does not contain anything to trip under heavy current load Their only capability is to detect problems with the ground. A circuit breaker needs to supply electricity to this device. A circuit breaker's amp rating determines whether or not it will trip if too much electricity is drawn.

I installed it according to instruction. The green light is on, but the power does not work? What do you mean by hot wires in the line?

This is what I had to do A green light appeared, but no power was supplied and no power was available to reset the device. I had a problem with one of the units I was replacing. It had the load wires on top and the line wires on bottom. This unit has the opposite configuration. I was able to get it to work after swapping.

What happens when you shake one of these things? Do they rattle? The one I got may not have been the best. ?

They have these in the larger hardware stores too, only they are more expensive. You could go there and shake one of theirs to see if it has the same type of rattle. I don't recall mine having one, but then again, I didn't shake mine.

The program is good, but it is difficult to set up
4/5

Even though this product does the job perfectly, you may become confused when you install it due to its design. There was a green light on it but it did not work, so I wired it exactly like the old one. The green lights turned out to be confusing because I assumed they meant everything was in order. After doing some research, I figured out this brand has reverse wiring regarding top and bottom, and if green lights indicate that you are not wiring it right before you reset it, then you are not wiring it properly. How did they come up with a design that a green light means the wrong thing? Once I switched top and bottom and reset it, the red lights came on for a moment and then changed to After that, everything worked as it should. If it is green, it means it is working, but if it is not wired properly, then what? There is a great deal of confusion here.

I've tested it with two wire system and it works
5/5

Please read all the directions before you start. As an amateur electrician, I have no clue how to do anything. I often have to use those little adapters that I don't like since my home has only two prong outlets. This has continued to frustrate me over the years. reading on the switch to three prong outlets and discovered that the circuits in my house (built in 1957) apparently have only two wires. I had a fluorescent tube fixture above a large mirror in my bathroom, but it was removed at some point and a rig was made that looked unsightly and would likely be hazardous. To one side of the mirror is an antique wall mounted gas lamp, which has been converted into a light socket. There was a very thin gauge power cord with a single plug and two 6 foot extension cords attached to power this device. The strangest thing ever. Neither plug was plugged into the other end of the mirror, so the lamp and plug were connected from one end of the mirror to the other end. Despite the cord being so old, it did not even have the socket with one larger opening for polarized plugs. Even worse, they simply wrapped a wire coming out of the wall through the little hole in the end of each prong and covered it with electrical tape. After doing a little research, I discovered that GFCI outlets can be wired to two-wire systems and they provide some level of protection even without grounding. In any case, I ordered this and I wired it to the wires coming out of the wall by hooking the wires straight into Initially, I pressed the reset and test buttons to see if they worked, instead of looping the wire traditionally (it offers the option of clamping on straight wire or looping the wire traditionally). Resetting the circuit breaker and turning on the switch that instructed the outlet to work brought the outlet back on. I noticed the status light on the outlet was blinking red but that it would go out shortly after. It did not work when I plugged a lamp in. Because I knew it was wired correctly, I was at a loss as to why it would not Eventually, I grabbed an unused two-prong outlet from the basement and attached it. I was able to use the device.
The next day when I woke up I was still thinking about it, so I did what I always do, but not this time. It was actually the directions that I read. Upon testing, I discovered that the test switch was tripped when it was shipped. The article told me to plug in a lamp or something and turn on the power and then restore the power and press the reset button. That's the story. The old outlet was taken off and replaced by a new one The wire was looped around the screw this time when wiring this outlet. followed the instructions carefully and after playing around with the test and reset buttons for a few minutes, I must have done it in the correct order and, much to my relief, it worked as expected. The lamp is now powered when I flip on the switch and there is a green light. Also, I have installed a power strip on the second plug-in, so now I have three prong outlets.

The product was faulty from the start
3/5

Up until this one, I had purchased a few of these with good results. Buying this one to replace a 13 yr old GFI that occasionally tripped. My old one was damaged, so I replaced it with the new one- This is for Lead the way. Despite all my attempts, there was no test or reset after I turned the green test light on. The old one was put back in place, and this unit was thrown out. It is yet another example of China's poor quality control (or lack thereof). Purchases of these will not be made in the future.

It is hard to press the reset button
5/5

There were four wires in each of the electrical outlets I removed two black and two white, plus a ground wire. The two new gfci outlets were wired using only the line connections rather than the load plates, so I did not want to affect any outlets further down the line (Disclaimer Because I am not an electrician, you do the wiring at your own risk. Since both receptacles now have power, and the green indicator lights are on, I expect that they will work right away. Both of these, however, have a very difficult time pressing the reset button. The fact that I couldn't push the button in when I tried to push it caused me a lot of grief since I thought I had miswired the outlets. The electrician I hired to install them came highly recommended. After calling five electricians and getting no answer on their phones or not being contacted by call back, I finally spoke with a kind, overworked electrician who agreed to come the next week, but told me that it would be important to push hard to have the outlets reset. The buttons on the Leviton GFCI outlets he put in over the past few months have been difficult to press that he originally thought they were defective. I thanked him for his advice and tried it, and now it works just fine. Plugging the outlets into the wall tightly and hitting the reset button hard with the end of a wooden spoon helped me reset the outlets. In the end, it took a lot of pressure to make it.

This Leviton GFNT1-U works great and the LED indicator is a must
5/5

In this project, W replaces a standard GFCI Cons There is no power if the wiring is incorrect
The safety feature does not allow it to function if there is an error in the wiring
The safety feature does not enable the circuit until after a self-test is completed An experiment to test your understanding of Make sure you read the instructions thoroughly! It was difficult to find the model with the hidden screws in the cabinet

Good experience
Finding which GFCI receptacle had gone bad was a bit difficult because the ones that builders use do not have LED status indicators. My mistake was to transpose the cables, and while I was doing that I realized that the wiring was done incorrectly when the house was built. I corrected the circuit wiring and did the self test using a lamp. The only thing to note about this unit is that it does not come with a child safety feature that prevents sharp objects being inserted Children cannot reach GFCI outlets in my state because they are installed high off the ground. A model with this feature might be a good idea as kids love to play with buttons and will definitely be drawn to the green LED light.
