Questions & Answers

What determines the size of wire is the way it's wound?

In fact, this is a trickier question than it appears, because a lot depends not only on how your current plans are going, but also on what you're going to do next. I'm glad I went with 12/2 instead of 14/2 or 16/2, which others had suggested would suffice in my case. After the first run in the back yard, the first run in my outdoor lighting nearly doubled, but what I really wanted was so much more than a decent display of lights. My wife's 50th anniversary gift to her was a deck, which we celebrated last night! The lighting was part of the deck, which I had built as part of our expensive deck project; my wife was blown away the first time she saw the deck with lights, but we decided to increase the illumination, and wow, what a difference in appearance. I recall reading on the internet that a contractor no longer quotes 12/2 due to the efficiency of LED bulbs, and boy, am I glad I've never overheard. My regret is that I only wired my system with two zones - I'd probably separate a circuit for the trees and the water feature from the lower ground bushes, as you did in your project, so that I could illuminate the shrubbery in sections, which is quite dramatic, especially when using an iPhone to control the lights. We wired these low voltage lights separately, just like the ten 120V party string lights that span some areas of the deck and a few twinkle lights in trees. I wish you the best of luck and am confident that you will achieve your goals - My daughter had a really neat but very inexpensive outdoor lighting system she had hand-built at our wedding anniversary party last night; it spoke volumes, she only spent a few hundred, and the lights can be easily removed or changed according to her whims, and she had individual battery operated LED lighting in her flower pots, flower garden, and paper lanterns hanging in her trees, what a dramatic display. This could be entertaining for a smaller display, but changing all of the information would likely take several hours.

The material description specifies that it is made up of aluminum and copper. What is the aluminum component of a wire that isn't copper clad?

I believe the aluminum in the materials list is a misprint because it goes to such lengths to explain that it is pure copper. That seemed to be the case, as far as I could tell.

How can I distinguish between the cables if they are all the same color?

The cable's markings indicate that it's meant for low-voltage applications. You don't need to use a specific wire to connect your fixtures in this application because it's usually done with a 12 Volt.

Is there a UL or etl listing for the wire?

That, I believe, took place.

Selected User Reviews For FIRMERST 12/2 Low Voltage Wire Outdoor Landscape Lighting Cable 25 Feet

It's a good wire; if I had to rate it solely on its own merits, I'd say it's approximately 12 gauge wire with a thick core
5/5

The problem is not with the wire; rather, it is with the reel on which it is delivered. Both times I ordered this product, both of the reels were broken. As a result, it can be difficult to use only the amount of wire required without the remainder of the wire falling out. It's just more trouble to get tangled up in the wire. The main issue is with the packaging (or lack thereof) and shipping. I did not remove any stars because I believe they are significant. The truth is that you'll get 12 gauge wire for your money, and if you're going to use it all, the reel might not be necessary.

WARNING: SPOOL WINDINGS CAN BE CRAPPY
3/5

This review is not about the wire, which is a five-star product. This review is about the spool on which it's wound up. Because one side of the spool was missing, it resulted in a large spool of wire spaghetti. After 30 minutes of excruciating unwinding, I was finally able to straighten things out. I wouldn't recommend buying this wire because of the way it's packaged.

It is critical that the wire and copper are free of contaminants
5/5

I decided to replace several old landscape lights that surrounded my pool with larger 12 gauge wire, which I then used for the pool's "main" wire, which was about 250 feet long. (A smaller 14 gauge wire was used to connect the main wire to the lights pigtail. ) 2) I also used the new software packages There's one thing about me connectors that I think is totally awesome. Here's the link: http://www. This is the Amazon website, which is encoded in UTF-8. 8 Because there is only one PSI component, I soldered and shrank it. As you can see in the photo, the jumpers have been wrapped around the lights. The copper on the new wire was nice and clean, and the solder arranged itself quickly.

This is a fantastic wire, and it's kept on a reel that stinks! I gave this 5 stars because of the wire, which is why I bought it in the first place
5/5

It wasn't a major problem, except that the wire reel had broken and the wire was all over the place. I'd like to see a better reel, and it's not just because of the wire. Low voltage lighting is used in conjunction with outdoor DefTech speakers. An A- plus!.

Connectors for this are difficult to come by! I need a heavier wire because the thinner wires rot and fall apart
5/5

It's also difficult to find connectors to go with this wire unless you have the right tools for the job.

It was all because of this
5/5

My lights were dim because I was using a low voltage wiring kit (16) with a drop off at the end of the run. These conditions were bettered by this cable. Now that I've run the new wire, the lights are brighter than they've ever been; make sure to use the large wire nuts (waterproof type), as the smaller ones are more difficult to work with.

The cable is one of my favorite features
5/5

My experiences have taught me a lot about installation and how to ensure that there is no voltage drop when using 12 gauge wire. This cable will be used in place of my 14 gauge cable. Despite its high price, this cable lives up to its promise of being flexible and easy to split into. Despite the fact that there is no voltage drop beyond 100 feet, I have six LED lights that each use only 5 watts of power. I'm going to buy something once more.

This is the product for you if you need low-voltage outdoor lighting
5/5

It appears to be well constructed. Although it is not necessary for outdoor lighting, one wire strand has identifying ribs to ensure that polarity is not mixed up (in the event that it is).
