It works great on 14/2 stranded wire for low voltage lighting. You need to check the specifications on the product website. I have used it on that type of wire and it is It is up to the specs to confirm whether it can handle the load solid wire will likely be ok but twisted stranded may not fit.
What is the outsize diameter of the 8/2, if that is the diameter dimension. This will not work as long as the diameter of the hole in the screw on end cap is larger than 8/2 however, if the longest point of the oval is the same size as the round hole in the end cap, it would work but it wouldn't be waterproof.
I am very pleased with them. Those cables were used to connect low voltage lights to the garden. I found them easy to install and they appear to be watertight. For some of the lights that are close to a water fall, I installed about ten of these connectors of either the T type or straight type. It's unlikely they'd fit in your application with 12 gauge wire, even if you use 14 gauge wire. I'm not sure if they're rated for 12 gauge, which might be too thick. Make sure the specifications are correct.

I found it to be of good quality.
Our purpose is to use it for garden lighting low voltage wiring. Since it isn't expected to rain here for another 4 months, I'm not sure of its water-proof qualities. This connection type has a positive connection relative to the snap type connection the LV lighting companies use.

There is a lot of thought put into everything. Throughout, there are strong screws and threads. The wire gauge should be at least a little off from the watertight seal so as to allow for some tolerance. There is a very specific need here that is really well met by the product.
The units are well built, easy to use, and Splicing the 14/3 outdoor lighting cable with them is a great option. A junction box does not need to be bulky! I like these more because they're slimmer and more pleasing to the eye. The connections are very mechanically sound.
