No, both ends are threaded; if they weren't, they'd be pretty useless.

I have a 10 inch ceiling and purchased the 12 inch downrod, but if you want to be sure, go to the Hunter website (google it) and look at the table for ceiling height and downrod length. I hope this has been of assistance.

Because our family room has vaulted ceilings, it was ideal for extending the downrod for a fan we installed. The fan is now at the proper height and is blowing cool air around the room. Our previous fan was hung too high in the ceiling and only pushed hot air down. This improved the performance of the new fan to meet our requirements. It was a perfect match for the Hunter fans we purchased from the orange big box hardware store.
For a sloped high ceiling, we needed some extra length, and this extension rod was the perfect match for our Hunter ceiling fan. Threads were in perfect alignment, there was no wobble, and the color (nickle/silver) was spot on.
On the outside of the box, it stated that "standard" drop-shipping was available. The distance from the ceiling to the floor is 12 inches. There's a two-inch drop inside the box. down. I needed to get the "standard" 12 inch drop-in shower. down. The fan manufacturer hasn't met my expectations. br>Beware of unscrupulous salespeople. br>If you're looking for a unique way to express yourself, try using the phrases " I needed down to install the fan, and it was just what I needed. It performs admirably and matches the fan's fabric perfectly.
This one appears to be a little more tinted than brushed nickel. This one, I believe, goes better with my stainless steel appliances than the Mena Hampton Bay fan I purchased. UPDATE: It's the most ideal pairing. I tried one from a different supplier and it was a poor match, so take a chance on this one.
We have a Hampton Bay Southwest 52 in ceiling fan installed on a vaulted ceiling, and this downrod was ideal; our ceiling is 9 1/2 feet high, and the fan is at the perfect height right now. It's simple to set up and use.
I could have gotten the same thing from HD, but I was afraid I'd need a down rod with threads on both ends. I hadn't yet opened my new FANS, but I had recently installed a Hunter in another of my homes, which required a threaded down rod on both sides.
So, since Amazon is usually a good place to get these extra parts, I ordered three of them and finally installed them. It turns out that one of them has threads so bad that it can't connect to the fan, and it's a couple weeks too late to send it back. A dissatisfied client.
This helped me install a 60-inch fan in my sloped-ceiling bedroom. I needed to move the blades away from the ceiling, and this worked perfectly. I only wish they had made an 8-inch version, because that would have been even better.
