Questions & Answers

What is the length of wire I'll need for the extra cable? The shortest appears to be 150mm, but isn't that a little too long?

I made a connection between it and the seat. With the 150mm cable, you can charge your tube battery. It was longer than necessary, but at this location, the extra length didn't matter, so I just taped it up. This was the simplest way for me to incorporate it into an existing setup without having to remove the crankset or BB.

Is it possible to use this component in place of the sm- Is it an ultegra di2 compataband? Can all of the udi2 data be sent to a whaoo element?

Hello Marc, This is a replacement for the SM-XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX EWW1 is now equipped with Bluetooth. This is made to be mounted along any etube wire and send a Bluetooth / ANT signal to a computer that supports it. You'll need the newer Shimano DN110 battery for this to work. This device will not work without a battery. This unit requires an additional etube cable to complete the system because it mounts in line with one. In terms of computer compatibility, I can only say that Garmin currently supports it, but it is not exclusive.

The gear ratio has been switched to 52/36. ?

It all depends on the bike computer you have. My GPS device is a Garmin 1030. Drilling down to the correct location to make the change took some time.

How do I know if the battery in my 2017 giant TCR is compatible?

There are two types of batteries: rechargeable and non-rechargeable. One foe is making its way down the seat tube. It's long and round, as you'd expect, but the external battery and its mount are very different and cannot be placed inside the frame. All of Shimano's components have excellent documentation on their website.

Difficulties in Getting Things Set Up
3/5

Based on the initial setup, I'm only giving it two stars. This is how everything went down. br>br>On my DI2, there was a removable connector near the handlebars that I just removed and replaced with this unit. That's not a problem! After that, I followed the directions and used the reset button to put the DI2 in pairing mode. The lights alternate between red and green. great! Then, on my iPhone, I launch the app, follow the prompts, create a new PIN, and the app pairs with the device. woohoo! The app then informs me that I need to update the firmware. The firmware update begins, and everything appears to be going well until the app crashes. Uh oh. Nothing happens when you try to connect the app. Attempt to reactivate Di2's pairing mode. nothing. Nothing works because the lights are out, shifting doesn't work, and nothing works because the lights are out. br>br>Now the long, drawn-out process of attempting to repair it begins. I'll spare you the gory details, but it took me several hours to get it back up and running. Here's how it works:br>br>1. Using an app on your phone or other device, update the firmware. br>2. The firmware update will kill Bluetooth somewhere along the way, causing you to lose connection and the update to fail. br>3. After removing the WU111, your DI2 should begin to function normally again. Replace the broken WU111 once its functionality has been restored.
3. "YOU MUST NOW USE A DIFFERENT DEVICE TO CONNECT TO AND UPDATE THE UNIT," says the key step. Because the WU111 must be updated via Bluetooth (which makes perfect sense when you think about it), a PC cannot be used for this purpose. It really does, and I mean that seriously. The original device will see the unit regardless of what you do, but it will not properly pair with it. You'll need to switch to a new phone or tablet and start over.
4. When you connect the second device, it will warn you that the current firmware may not be up to date and that you should update it.
5. The second firmware update attempt appears to go off without a hitch, and everything seems to be fine after that. br>br>I believe the issue stems from one of the apps or devices looking for the default PIN of 000000, while the other is looking for the custom PIN you entered during setup. The problem persisted after I removed and reinstalled the app on my phone. I was able to re-create myself by using my wife's phone and starting from scratch. When you entered the custom PIN, everything went smoothly. br>br>After the update, I was able to reconnect using the original phone. Another recent reviewer had the same issue and solved it in a similar way. It's possible that this is a one-time issue with this firmware update. However, if you've spent a lot of time working with technology, nothing makes you feel worse than a firmware update that fails halfway through. all the way through In the majority of cases, there is no assurance of recovery. br>br>For the time being, the device appears to be functional. I programmed the buttons on my shifters to control my Garmin, which is neat, and I can see my DI2 battery level reported alongside my other data, which is exactly why I bought the unit in the first place. Hopefully, if you buy one of these and run into the same issue, the steps outlined above will save you a lot of time and aggravation.

It could use some more documentation, but it's functional
4/5

Several people have commented on how difficult it is to set up. I believe there are a few key points to be aware of in order to improve your overall experience. The unit's default bluetooth passcode (six zeros) is used when you first connect to it. It immediately requests that you update your passcode. Keep in mind that your phone remembers this connection and, as a result, still thinks the passcode is six zeros. After you've completed any initial setup procedures, you should disconnect the Bluetooth from the E-Book's main menu. Go into your phone and turn off the bluetooth connection after you've finished with the Tube app. Then, using your new passcode, repeat the steps you used to connect the first time. Finally, and most importantly, you must always disconnect the Bluetooth in the E-mail client. When you're finished, open the tube app. When this device is connected to your phone, nothing will work. br>br>I hope this information is useful.

It's so small, but it gets the job done
5/5

It's a teeny-tiny little thing. It doesn't appear that it will accomplish anything. It appears strange that the system's communication components are located in such an unusual location. I questioned the entire concept of creating a system that *can* connect, rather than one that is unable to connect by default, as well as bike manufacturers who do not include this as part of their bike. br>br>And once you get this working, which I did with no issues, the system and E-bike are fantastic. Tube software detected the addition, updated the firmware, and it was up and running in no time. I did all of the other updates before installing this, so that could have been a factor. I'd heard horror stories about failed updates and devices that had become 'bricked. ' It's possible that this is due to the fact that all of the updates were applied at the same time. I have no idea. There are no issues in this area. br>br>Purchase this to use with a Garmin unit or other ANT/Bluetooth bike computers that can record telemetry. Having all that DATA DATA DATA at your fingertips is a nerdgasm. Plus, you won't need a laptop or a cable to tweak your settings.

As an upgrade, it's incredibly simple to set up
5/5

I received it the same day and had it installed. I bought an extra wire for my di2 system's connection, as well as a tool to make it easier to pop in and out the wires. Overall, the setup took no more than 20 minutes. Everything was in order. br>br>I first connected my di2 system to my computer and updated the software on my computer, and then I connected with the IOS app and bluetooth with my head unit. All I wanted was to be safe, and everything went smoothly. It's a cool addition, but Shimano should be ashamed for not including it in the first place!.
