Questions & Answers

Will it be able to take the place of the black pumpt?

Yes, I replaced the same black and gray pump that came with my 20-year-old XGK with it, and it works perfectly. If you overtighten the black and grey pump, it may crack. This one takes care of the issue.

Is this the international whisper lite pump?

The regular whisper lite, Internationale model, and xgk variants are all compatible. On the dragonfly, it won't work. br>It may not look exactly like the one you're replacing, but it's a far better design than the previous models.

Will it be able to compete with off-brand chinese multi-tools? regulators of the fuel supply? Is the diameter of the threads standard?

Hello Pyra, The Dragonfly Fuel Pump is only intended for use with MSR liquid fuel bottles, and then only with the MSR DragonFly Stove. It was not created or tested with the intention of being used in any other way. MSR's Customer Service Department is available to assist you.

Will this pump withstand the summer heat?

No, because the pumping plunger is made of a different material, any use above 32 degrees will cause premature wear. I know because mine broke down after only a few uses at around 40 degrees. To be fair, MSR specifies that the artic pump should only be used when the temperature is below 32 degrees. This winter, I camped for 120 days and the artic pump worked flawlessly, even when temperatures dropped below freezing. br>I hope this information was useful.

Rebuilding a 30 year old pump is a better option
5/5

I purchased this instead of a rebuild kit for my MSR Whisperlite pump, which is 30 years old. br>br>My old pump still works, but the new rings are starting to show wear, and I'm worried it'll break down in the backcountry. I decided to get the newer version of the pump rather than save $10 by using the rebuild kit. PROS: br>br> br>It's a better pump than the MSR Whisperlite pump I had before. It does a much better job of pushing air. br>I like the new valve because it is more sensitive than the one on my old pump. I'm a natural cook. br>I had no trouble connecting it to my old MSR Whisperlite hose. Some people have complained about the latch, but I don't think it's a problem. br>I thought the price was very reasonable. CONS: br>br>
None. This is like my Swiss Army knife; for decades, my Whisperlite has been the only stove I've needed. My old pump, as I previously stated, is still operational! br>br>THE BOTTOM LINE: br>If you clean and disassemble your MSR burner, it will last a lifetime. This will allow you to upgrade your old stove to a new one for a fraction of the cost. Do you want to keep your old pump as a back-up?.

Much better design than the Wisperlite pump, which has been in use for 30 years and is now leaking
5/5

After a major leak on my old pump last week, I contacted MSR, who offered to repair my stove and pump for $25 plus shipping, which I thought was a great deal. But I decided to order this new pump to see if it would solve the leak problem more quickly and for a few dollars less. It just arrived, and the new pump design is fantastic. Also, despite the fact that it is not mentioned in the description or on the box or paperwork, a new MSR folded aluminum 20" x 5" bag is included in the box with the pump. A small tube of "pump cup oil," a 5" windscreen, and a 9" dia heat reflector. Wow. MSR, thank you so much!.

In the field, the plunger snapped in two after only five pumps: TWICE! MSR is no longer a reliable source of information
3/5

On the "new" design, the materials are of lower quality. I bought two. The red plastic plungers that pressurize the stoves are flimsy and snap like twigs, which is not a good idea for a moving part under pressure. Once the stove is broken, there is no way to operate it, which is a disaster when it comes to cooking or boiling water when you're miles away from civilization, which is why you bought it in the first place. MSR is a fantastic company that produces high-quality goods. This pump, which is a key component of one of their most popular products, the whisperlite stove, is clearly defective, destroying the product's value and providing no reliability. We purchase MSR products because of their dependability. As a result, MSR has failed miserably. br>Suggest they develop an aluminum plunger that is both reliable and unbreakable. It's hard to believe MSR still has this on the market.

It works well, but it must be replaced on a regular basis
3/5

Except for the pump section, the Dragonfly stove is a great and dependable piece of equipment. This is the third time I've had to purchase a new pump. The pump valve seizes every time, and the only solution is to replace the pump. Basically, the valve's plastic threads disintegrate over time; I've attached a photo to demonstrate the problem. br> I believe that the pump, or at the very least the valve threads, should be made of metal. Having a spare pump on hand is convenient, but I believe these pumps are too expensive to replace on a regular basis.

However, there is no way to control the flame
3/5

I was overjoyed to finally receive my 30-day probationary period. year- WhisperLite has been restored to its former glory. The new valve, on the other hand, is essentially an ON/OFF switch. There was no way to raise the flame, and even more importantly (for me), there was no way to lower the flame for simmering or other low-heat applications. It's either all or nothing. It's a little aggravating.

For my MSR, this is a fantastic replacement pump
5/5

I've traveled the world with my 43-year-old MSR Dragon Fly mountaineering pack. My old MSR pump finally failed, so I invested in a new MSR replacement pump. The new one is far superior to the previous one in terms of functionality. If you're looking for a new Dragon Fly pump, make sure to get the one that's completely red. The other multicolored ones (REI) are too small to fit the Dragon fly fuel line. br>Amazon shipped the pump, and it arrived in one day. The cost was ten dollars. 00 less than the competition. br>Like the previous pump, this one should last 43 years. MSR is a fantastic company that produces excellent products.

When is MSR going to make a good solid pump? For my 26-year-old xgk stove, I'm going to order a new style pump
3/5

The top plunger tabs have finally snapped into place in the pump body lock slots. The first delivery of a new pump was incomplete, as the pump cup was missing. It wasn't a problem because I had an old leather cup on hand. I was afraid I'd break the on/off valve due to its tightness. When I disassembled it, I discovered that the O ring on the shaft was not in the correct groove. While waiting for pre-heating, I plugged the pump bottle into the stove and primed it with primer paste. Heat caused a fireball to form, and the bottle caught fire; the valve was turned off. It leaked all over the place. The Amazon replacement was delivered the next day. Customer service was excellent, and the new pump performed flawlessly after a pre-operational check. These plastic pumps are still lagging behind European and Chinese reverse engineering stoves. Because my days of global travel are nearly 70 years behind me, I only use my stove for ranch chores and elk hunting. The stove is still in excellent condition. It's the fourth time in 26 years that I've had a pump. It would be nice if they could just come up with a better pump.

It comes with Heatshield, which explains why it's so expensive
4/5

MSR made an odd decision by including three items that aren't listed anywhere on the box. br>br>We appreciate the pump oil, and it serves as a good reminder to keep it clean. But why do the aluminum items have to be included? They aren't required or desired in any way. br>br> It's possible that they're so cheap that they don't add much to the cost, but sending us stuff we didn't ask for is environmentally irresponsible. Besides, these items are indestructible. Any wrinkles are smoothed out with a rolling pin, and they look brand new. It's been 25 years since I bought my set. Those items can be purchased separately if they are required. br>br> (Or, even better, make their own from lighter materials). br>br>I deducted one star for being environmentally irresponsible.
