It is just not the right size for my kayak and I have a large fishing kayak. The first thing to do is When I tighten down my Chevy Tahoe's oval OEM roof rack cross bars, the mounting bolt sticks too long and touches the metal of my roof. This is in spite of the clamps that were included with this. That was not what I was looking for. It would be easier to clear those bolts if they were about 1/4" shorter. Sturdiness is the most important aspect. As far as I can tell, they are fairly solid and do the job. The issue is not an issue. The problem that I had with mine was that they do not hold my Yukon 116 well after use. This is the reason I had to return them. Yaks like these are wide and are used to fish. As it is, the straps on the orange yak are not nearly long enough, and back support only reaches about halfway up the bottom. It just seems bad for the yak to put all that weight on so little of a support structure (it may cause denting in the long run or if the temperatures rise too high). This gave me the option of returning these and using the large pool noodles across the bars and just carrying the yak flat instead. In the case of a smaller, thinner yak, they may well work.
It is very easy to assemble and works well. The only problem I have is that the carriage bolts are too long and damage the roof of my car. Despite my attempt to purchase shorter ones, the original ones have a head that is unusually small, and they won't fit in the holes in the fitted ones.
Overall, it's holding up ok. The material doesn't feel very sturdy. The price you pay is the price you get.
The price is very low. This is an amazing deal. The chances of them holding up are slim to none.
Ok.
There is a hole in my kayak. We will not repeat it. It wouldn't be a good idea to purchase Their wobble and cheap material make them difficult to use. There are also some really bad ratchet straps that are meant to hold the kayak down. There was almost a crash when my kayak flew It is impossible for them to refund my money! The situation is not good.
Straps are too short. They won't cover the kayak the way they should.
There is no universal solution.
