Large "Thumb Screw" connectors hold it all together. They're made of rigid plastic and have a 3/8" bolt protruding from each attachment point, which you hand tighten into the four blind nuts. I expected it to be a hassle as well. However, it is extremely easy to do and takes very little time, and the set is of excellent quality. It's a lot of fun!
This is a great game to play. I bought it for a company party, and it seemed to go over well with everyone. I don't recall hearing anything about bottle openers.

This set has been in my possession for about 6 months and has performed admirably. We take it apart after each use, store it, and then reassemble it when we want to play.
