Questions & Answers

What size should someone with a height of 5'8" and a weight of 160 pounds choose?

I'm 5'6" and 130 pounds, so I'm a sm/md, but it could easily be adjusted to fit a waist size of 36, as these are meant to be snug. For you, I would suggest the sm.

Is there a rope included with this harness that can be used to tie it to a tree?

It does, however, include the "tether," which protects you if you fall from your stand (it connects you from the back of the harness to a point above your stand position). It excludes the use of a linesman rope to help you climb the tree. I'm not sure which "rope" you're talking about.

Is this a secure harness to use?

Yes, it appears to be the case. For two different deer seasons, I used it at least three times a week. This harness comes highly recommended by me.

Is there a shock-absorbent tether included with this harness?

It's a breakaway style, not a Bungie style, to be sure.

Totally fantastic
5/5

It's a fantastic and extremely secure harness, and I'd recommend it to any of my hunting buddies. It has previously saved my life. I chose the wrong type of tree to use with my climber, and the bottom kicked out, causing me to slide down the side of the tree, but the harness caught me before I hit the climber at the bottom, and my son had to come over and help me get out of it. This is the extent of my injury from sliding, and according to my son, I was knocked out for a minute or so before waking up thanks to this fantastic harness.

It was money well spent
5/5

My height is 6'1" and my weight is 245 pounds. I needed a larger size, so I went with the 2x-large. I did so because I knew that once I put on some heavy clothing, going down a size would be ineffective. That said, when it comes to warm-weather clothing, I've gone all the way down to the smallest size possible. It just about fits - However, as the weather cools, it will quickly fill up. That's just something to think about for guys who are in the middle of a size. However, the harness is excellent, providing everything I had hoped for and more. A beautiful carabiner is included. It's solidly constructed, and I'd put my trust in it in the event of a fall. At a fantastic price, this is an excellent product.

This is fantastic
5/5

I can easily say that after using this harness for the first week of deer hunting, I am in love with it. It's simple to get in and out of once you've adjusted the size to your liking. It's as if you're not wearing anything at all when you wear this line profile. I've had clunky buckles and bulky harnesses. This isn't the same as the others. Its 300-pound weight limit means I can add another 100 pounds and still use it. I did make some changes to the tree tether attachment. I couldn't get around the tree with the included strap, so I used a screwdriver to get around it. I hung the tether from the stairwell. See the illustration for more information.

The Hunter Safety System Is Effective! My bottom climber slipped off the tree, and I was thrown from my tree stand
5/5

About 15 feet up in the tree, I was. When you fall and are caught by the safety harness, I've always wondered how painful it is. I hung from the Hunter Safety System for over an hour without discomfort during the fall, and I'm not sure if another type of harness would have been as effective, but I'm "still living" proof that it works. Obviously, when climbing a tree, I strongly advise using a safety harness at all times, and the "Hunter Safety System" is one of my favorites.

For the money, this is a fantastic purchase
4/5

I've been using it for a month and haven't needed to use it for life safety, but I've used it enough to give it a review. br>br>First and foremost, this harness is a little heavier than the fall harnesses that came with my various stands. The sturdy rubber coated steel buckles appear to be the main reason for this, which is also why I prefer this harness to the cheap ones that come with it. There are no loops to step through or adjustments to make. You're done once it's been adjusted for your body. Put it on like a vest, clip the chest together, and then snap each leg strap on like a seat belt, and you're ready to go climbing. br>br>It's so comfortable to wear all day that I frequently forget I'm wearing it and forget to take it off when I get to the truck. br>br>According to the instructions, you should hang from it to test it. I tried it, but the safety fall arrest system made some ominous noises, and I was afraid it would tear, so I aborted the test; I want to save the fall arrest stitches for when I really need them, which I hope I never will. br>br>I love the handy lineman loops on each side; they make setting up steps and hanging stands a breeze, and they don't get in the way the rest of the time. I use a rope style tree strap with prusik as a lineman rope, and it works great. I've used the strap and lineman's loops to support my entire weight on numerous occasions, and I also climb trees with climbing spurs. I no longer use my old lineman's belt because I prefer this harness. br>br>Aside from the weight, the biggest disadvantage is the noise: whatever the shoulder pads are made of rustles when I move in the stand, which is louder than the bare webbing of cheaper harnesses but also more comfortable. To compare that aspect to, I haven't used anything more expensive than this. I usually wear it under a fleece, hooded sweatshirt, or jacket, depending on the temperature, and because it's silent once something is over it, the noise is only an issue on hot hunts. That's why I deducted a star; it appears that they could make the shoulder pads out of a quieter material for a similar price. br>br>I'm 5'11" and 210 pounds, and there's plenty of adjustability in both directions. When I'm not hunting, I keep mine on a hanger in the back of my truck with the buckles latched, which keeps it from tangling and makes it very easy to put back on. I once left it tangled in a heap, and it took me a few minutes to untangle it, so I learned my lesson! br>br>I also like the drag loop on the back of the waist; I haven't used it to drag a deer with it yet, but it will pull a sled of equipment or other items quite well. br>br>This harness is a great deal for the low price compared to all the other decent harnesses and the hunter safety brand name. There is no longer any justification for not using one, given the low cost and ease of use. I'd buy it again in a heartbeat and tell all my friends about it.

It's a good idea, but the execution isn't up to par
3/5

Returned. I like the harness's quality and concept, but it was poorly executed in the end.

- Fit - It rubs against the back of my neck in an uncomfortably uncomfortable way. The rest of the fit is fine, but I couldn't get it to sit comfortably on the back of my neck because I couldn't adjust it.

- Buckles - It's easy to put on, but the buckles and adjustment pieces are noisy and clanky. Because the leg strap adjustment pieces were on the inside of my thighs, they collided with each other when I moved (making a noise).

- Tether - The tether is too short; a quick connect option would be nice. br>br>- Strap for the tree There are a lot of better designs out there - more secure and simple - in the wild.

I purchased a L/XL based on the sizing chart
3/5

I'm 6'1" tall and weigh 165 pounds. I purchased a L/XL based on the sizing chart. I'm six feet tall and weigh 190 pounds. I cut all of the straps as short as they would go, but it was still about 6" too big. When you adjust the straps, the metal slide adjustment buckle is positioned beneath your leg. Although sitting on medal buckles in a tree stand would be very uncomfortable, I believe that if you normally wear extra large, this might work for you. It's possible that it won't fit if you're wearing a large size. They don't need to combine sizes; instead, they should make a S, M, L, XL, and XXL, not a S, M, L, XL, and XXL. There is far too much variation.
