HIGH-QUALITY: The blade is made of 154CM stainless steel, which is tough, rust-resistant, and holds an edge well. The Valox handle is sturdy and reliable, making it ideal for daily use.
WELL-DESIGNED: The AXIS Assist is the first of its kind in the Barrage family, allowing the Barrage 583 to be opened and closed quickly with either hand.
ALWAYS READY: The 583 is easy to hold and use thanks to its one-handed opening. The reversible pocket clip makes it easy to get to what you need.
VERSATILE: The tanto blade on the Barrage 583 has a high tip strength, making it ideal for tactical use. It's also adaptable enough to be used in everyday situations.

Questions & Answers

Is this another of those Chinese knives, but this time in a more expensive version?

Take a closer look at the fine print. Benchmade was forced to outsource some models due to a lack of resources. This is unfortunate because we lazy Americans cannot appreciate the quality of American made tools (Made in USA is superior 90 of the time Made in USA is superior 90 of the I'm not sure if any of the Barrage lineup is contracted out. Axis Auto has a different opening design than Axis. The axis does not open with a single button (Axis Auto), but rather with the help of springs.

Is this still 154cm, or have they made the switch to s30v?

My knife has a 154cm stamped on it, so I'm assuming that's the steel it's made of. I have about 5 other Benchmade knives, all of which are special knives that have and continue to serve me well over 39 years or more, rarely requiring sharpening even after extended use such as cleaning deer and other animals, as well as the hard duty tasks that first responders face on a regular basis. Even at $150 per knife, the value of their knives makes them very affordable when considering costs per use over many years; if you're an outdoor person like me, a knife of this quality can definitely save your knife or someone else's. If and when I need a new knife, it will undoubtedly be a benchmade!

Is it possible to purchase automatic switchblades or stilletoes on Amazon? com ?

Yes, you must purchase from another company through Amazon, but Amazon does not bear responsibility for selling you the knife; instead, they assist you in obtaining the knife from another company.

Is this a knife with a blade that opens automatically?

Yes. On both sides, there are thumb studs. However, there is no spine tab. One that is simple to open- If you have thumbs, you can do it one-handed! To fully open and lock, apply spring pressure. Most assisted open knives use a lot of spring pressure for about half of the swing and rely on momentum to get to the lock.

I've done everything with this knife, and it has never let me down in the last two years as my everyday carry
4/5

I've used it to cut everything from 550 to hard plastic zip tie cuffs, car air bags, and fishing line, and it has never failed me. MRE packaging is doomed to fail! It's been through salt water, sand, and even a snowy Afghan mountain, and it's still going strong. The carrying clip and the handle material are the only things that keep it from being perfect. As you can see, I replaced the cheap-feeling plastic handles with G10 scales and added a deep carry clip. So I had to spend an extra $100 to get it just right, but it's been well worth it.

IT DOESN'T GET ANY BETTER THAN BENCH MADE
3/5

I've had one of theirs for a long time and it's done everything I've asked of it and then some. I wanted a newer model, so I purchased this one as well as a drop point model. This model comes with an assisted open blade that works perfectly, as well as a lock open or closed switch that I'm not sure I'll ever use. Bench made isn't a word that comes to mind when I think of sharp; razor sharp is a better description. Cost? Well, if you're looking for a great knife, cost isn't an issue. I'd recommend bench made knives to anyone looking for a great knife, and the really great thing for me is that both of these knives came with the pocket clip set up for a left handed person, which I'm not sure why because most things if they're for use with either hand are set up for a righty. You will not be sorry if you purchase a Benchmade. UP TO DATE: br>br> I'd like to add something to my previous review. I'd been eyeing a Benchmade pocket knife with a Tantoblade for a while. The only other requirement was that the blade be coated, as I dislike gleaming blades. This one has the AXIS Assist opening, which means that when you push it open, it pops open and locks just like the regular ones. There's also a thumb slide in the center back of the handle so you can see if it's open or closed, and the pull tab you used to close it won't work. AXIS Assist works well, but you must pull the blade closed with either your pants leg or the other hand; otherwise, it will not close like a normal operating one. The blade is perfectly aligned in the handle, and everything is snug and secure. Like my other SUPER FREEK with M4 blade, it has a filler on the back and isn't completely open. The handle appears to be made of some sort of black plastic with finger grooves on the edges and serrations on both sides for your thumb and index finger. Bottom line, this is a fantastic Benchmade knife that, like my first, I am confident will last 20 years. I like it and would buy more if I needed to. UPDATED! br>br> I don't know about other people who bought this knife, but mine's assisted opening mechanism has broken twice, so if I were you, I wouldn't buy it until Benchmade fixes the problem. I haven't used it for anything other than opening a few letters, so I'm confident that it isn't my fault. Changing to one star because this is the most important aspect of this knife because the blade does not open and close like a manual knife because it does not work properly.

The tanto bladed 583 Barrages as well as the from SOG and Benchmade are two of my favorite knives
5/5

I like the tanto bladed 583 Barrages as well as the Mini Barrage as an owner of dozens of Spydercos, SOG, and Benchmade knives. However, I prefer number three. The thicker 2" black tanto blades on the 583 Barrage knife outnumber the thicker 6" black tanto blades. My Mini Barrage is equipped with a 9" drop point blade. 154CM stainless steel blades (58-inch) are thicker, stronger, and have a better edge retention. 61HRC is a high-quality stainless steel from the United States. This was my second 583 Barrage, and I only buy two of anything if I truly enjoy it. My theory is that if I really like something, I should buy a backup just in case, assuming it's financially feasible, which it usually is with pocket knives. These knives feature one of the most powerful assisted locking mechanisms on the market (AXIS), as well as ambidextrous functionality (quick, one-handed opening). a reversible carry-on that can be used with either hand), and a one-handed opening that can be operated equally well with either hand A safety for both open and closed positions, as well as a clip that can be moved to any corner of the knife. They don't have a lanyard hole, but I don't use one anyway, so it's not a big deal to me. This is a spring-assisted model that offers both speed and strength in a single package. It has a Valox handle (which is a light, but very strong material) and stainless steel liners for added strength and durability, which I prefer over the SOG Flash II or probably any pocket knife in this size, which I like. It has a nice feel to it in the hand, especially for a three. It's a 6-inch bladed knife that fits nicely in your pocket and doesn't get in the way like the Spyderco Tenacious, which is quite wide when folded up. They also offer a lifetime warranty, demonstrating their commitment to their customers. It's an excellent EDC and tactical knife that I'd take with me wherever I go. This book comes highly recommended. My only criticism is the cost, but you get what you pay for.

Doesn't stay sharp / lousy customer service; they don't honor their limited lifetime warranty
3/5

I purchased this knife along with a $30 knife sharpener, but the sharpener broke within the first month, and they refused to help me. This knife requires a sharpener because it doesn't stay sharp for long, and if Benchmade won't stand behind one of their products, why should you believe they'll stand behind any of them? I wish the knife and sharpener could be returned in their entirety.

Although it is a larger knife, it manages to fit into your pocket and is extremely comfortable to use
5/5

Be cautious because the tip is extremely fine. This knife has been in my possession for over a year and is still in excellent condition. With only minor maintenance, the blade remains razor sharp. Although it is a larger knife, it manages to fit into your pocket and is extremely comfortable to use. Because the tip of this knife is extremely fine, it should not be used as a prying tool. That's what I did, and I snapped the tip off. It was relatively simple to reattach a tip, but only do so if you've done it before. The scales are slippery, but the pattern and grooves provide plenty of grip. On the blade, the coating is in excellent condition and has barely worn. The 583bk Barrage is well worth the price and, if used and cared for properly, will last a lifetime. Launching the knife open with the thumb stud is still as clean and easy as when I first purchased it, and the axis lock has become my favorite blade locking system as a result of this knife.
